new rear sets!
« on: September 08, 2009, 08:39:13 PM »
hey guys.  i just bought these rear sets from a motorcycle junk yard for $100.  they're from a '98 YZF600 (the r6's baby brother).  they have a nice small mounting bracket for a small footprint which is good.  i was wondering if i could take the mounting brackets off and fab up a mounting plate for just the controls and pegs themselves.  does this make sense?  otherwise, i was going to get some 1/4" plate and weld up some brackets around where the passenger mounts are.  any advice on where and how to mount them is appreciated.

do i need to do anything special to the kick starter??

i'm 6'3", so should i just mount them where it's comfortable for me?

thanks a bunch for any advice guys!!!  i appreciate it!

i have seen some rear sets mounted without a special bracket like these come with and i was wondering if i could get away with this, and how it's been done.

here's an example of one of carpy's bikes:

mine have the bracket on them, and i was wanting to know if i removed the bracket, could i bolt the sets on to something else?  i really need to just take them apart and have a look, but i figured if anyone had anything, they could chime in.  thanks guys!

you should be able to answer all the questions you asked by searching.

the rearsets pictured below are (i believe) tarrazzi or something like that. they come in a bolt on kit or universal kits. they are a bit more pricey though.

mount them where they are comfortable for you. usually it is below your butt a few inches back. just make sure you have your bars and seat you plan to keep before you make them permanent.

good luck

ya, i've tried searching, but i didn't find exactly what i wanted.  i figured i'd also share the rear sets i got a good deal on, in case people wanted to know what else would work.  i figured i'd do it where it was comfortable.  does anyone have an idea of how to install some feeler bolts underneath?  i was thinking of just drilling and tapping a hole and screwing a bolt in so i would have some kind of pre-warning if i leaned far enough.

thanks for the help anyways guys!
