So you think you have done, "The Long Ride"
« on: September 09, 2009, 09:32:22 AM »
Ran into a guy on a  Blue 84 Harley FLT, at the Peppermill in Wendover Nev. Looked like a high mile bike, that had been on the road a lot.

Bike looked vaguely familiar to me..

Aked the fellow how many miles, he said  410 or 420,000 miles  :o.... 2nd motor.

Still looked sorta familiar, asked him how long he had been on the road, he replied.. 15 years.. :o   :o   :o

The bike reminded me of the one in Easyriders Mag, that used to do road reports, years ago, but I thought that the owner of that one had dark hair, this guy was blond... probably sunbleached, plus a few years went by..

So when I asked his name and he said Scotty, I knew my hunch was right..

Anyway, we talked for probably an hour or more, about life on the road... and living off your bike.. interesting conversation.. We shared a few tips for getting by on the cheap and stretching your dollars, finding spots to crash, etc..

I guess the bottom line is, I miss those month long rides I used to do.... maybe want to do it again..

Anyway, maybe a few of you had read his ride reports years ago and remember him..

oh yeah, he told me about and showed me a  pic of Panhead Billy...  been on the road longer than him.. think he might have ben at Miller  Bonneville GP) at the end of the week, sure looked like him.

Sure hope I cross paths with Scotty again, got a feeling I will..

Frank,

If we talk to our wives the "right" way being on the road for extended periods won't be a problem  ;)
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)
