Need Help!! Float Bowl Overflow tubes Broken
« on: September 13, 2009, 03:23:38 PM »
I have a 79 cb650 i just picked upm obly 2500 miles on it, and after 28 yrs of storage, needed a good carb cleaning. However I feel some may have previously disturbed the carbs, because one of the float bowl overflow tubes was brittle enough to break when my hand brushed it. And another one is cracked. But since they seemd to be pressed in, how can you get them out? Or repair/epoxy them back in? Can you get replacements? Are they just pressed in or screwed in or anything? Any ideas would be great.

The tubes are made of brass and are pressed in. I've seen some guys solder them, but it took some practice. You might find some used float bowls ebay. By the way, welcome to the forum.

I've also seen people use electrical heat shrink tubes, just slide it over the tube and heat it so it shrink-wraps your overflow tube. That'd work for your cracked one, but honestly you'd be better off looking for replacement bowls.

Huh, I wonder how well the heat-shrink holds up in a constant bath of gas?
Not saying it doesn't work, just that I don't know how solvent resistant that stuff is.

I'm not sure, either.  The guy who posted the 'fix' said it worked for over a year. ??? that's all I know. :D

you're lookin' for PD carbs, not too hard to find.  The float bowls for the PD50s were all mostly the same.  I'm not sure which 750s you share float bowls with, but 79 or 80 cb650 float bowls will work for ya.
