new ignition coils
« on: December 05, 2005, 07:32:01 AM »
I am wanting to get new coils for my '74 550 k.  I want to get the new coils with plug wires seperate.  I need to know what the Ohms are on the original  550k.  I was thinking 2.2 ohms.  I am not sure.  can anyone help me out?

There are loads of posts on here. Run a search on "ignition coils".

I understand (but have no proof) that the CB750/900/1100 DOHC coils use detatchable wires and can be made to fit with a little bracketry. I've also heard of VFR coils being used.

I believe your coils should be 5ohm - the 2/3 ohm coils really need electronic ignition as the extra current required toasts your points.

I have heard about points getting toasted, yet others say they are fine. Maybe it is the quality level of the points and condensers used. It is a common conversion though and most everyone say it is good.

As you've probably seen on here, the Dyna S seems to be the most appreciated, together with the matching low impedence coils.

Expensive though...

Thats a rough topic there. Be prepared. Though I think a bat pac is very possible.

wow  thanks for the warning.  well luckily I am not at the point where I want to buy this set up but none the less I think I am at least going strictly kick start.  something different for around here anyway.
