High Performance/Racing Forum
« on: September 16, 2009, 05:00:21 AM »
This website has some really great threads and information for those interested in spanking an sohc4 for racing/max performance. But I find there are two problems, relevant threads quickly get buried by the general tech postings, and trying to dig out old threads that could be of interest is very time consuming.

Are there enough members out there who feel they would make use of a specialist forum within the site that deals specifically with racing/high performance content for sohc4s?

If so, how do we go about approaching the moderators?
How do we demonstrate that there is likely to be sufficient interest?

I agree. Horsepower and what goes along with that, like beefed up parts and techniques, all in one place.

I have lobbied for some changes but to no avail. I agree that a high perforrmance section should be added as well as a chopper section. I know the Cafe guys would like their section too even though it's not my thing. I'd also like to be able to quickly go to my interests and bypass the stuff that is of no interest.

I like it!   The info should be in one place.  I would like to see some people with performance oriented mods and dyno curves or other concrete evidence to support the improvements.

As an example, I once posted on another site a question of what an exhaust system might be that had some documented horsepower gain.  In response I got posts about the quality of chrome on one, cornering clearance, oil filter access, and shipping costs.  Never found out a damn thing about performance.

If the sohc4 owners and mods want to do it, I'm happy to help.
A place where articles can be written by some of our best guys, to document things, so that they aren't burried in threads,
Easy enough to do, easy as blogging, and easily tied in with forums.
All they ahve to do is let me know, and I'm happy to set it up for them. All they need is hosting. Can use sohc4.net as the launchpad.

Great idea. Collectively, we probably have every high performance catalog every printed for the SOHC. We've got guys who've been there and done that, and are to this day still improving the performance products available - just look at the billet block.  :o

This is an excellent idea, i store links to the pages i am interested in and now i have that many links its just as frustrating trying to find and keep up with all the info. A single thread or place for this stuff would be excellent, so its a +1000 for me... ;)

I sometimes use a site on DOHC 750s and they have essentially two technical forums:  technical help  (for almost anything) and performance technical.  So the guy looking to get his bike running after sitting for 5 years goes to the first one while the guy trying to round up parts for a big bore kit goes to the second.  See:  http://www.cb1100f.net/modules.php?name=Forums

I am for it too but can see also a few problems......

where do you draw the line? a guy telling about polishing the casting marks and runnning pods is out, same but with a hot cam is in? though one. Is there going to be a moderator who can move out irrelevant threads?

Are there enough of us? By my counting there might be not more than 20-30 people here responding to heavy mods posts. I might be wrong so lets bump this for a while and see how many members we end up with.

I often miss perf related posts because of the overwhelming amount of other threads. This forum is so active that it really deserves some sub divisions.

Glenn? Steve? your thoughts?

PS we could always try and it it doesnt work move everything back to SOHC/4bikes

I'm working on a mockup to send to glenn et al to see if it's something they might want to do, if the site is built for them.
Then they'd just have to host it, and links would go back and forth between this main site and the hi-po site.
