i have to wonder what he's on about. i live in a big time military town, state really. and alot of folks, most of if not all of my friends dont care for President Obama, didnt vote for him BUT to a person of all my friends and other aquaintinces (sp?) both active military (wifes son and daughter in law for 2) retired military and others that didnt vote for President Obama and dont like him and what he does is in no way at all because of his race as former President Carter intimates. ALOT of african-americans i know dont like the man either. I personally didnt vote for the man but i do agree with SOME things he's done and is doing (i wont say what i like and what i dont, trying to keep politics out of a political thread)  :D  people here and at home that know me well enough know what i do and do not like. it just seems to me that just the fact that we elected an african american president shows that, as a nation, even though there is of course still racism, it is nowhere near as bad as it was for the previous generations (i was born in 1968)

I think as many people voted against McCain/Palin as anything. Palin was gold digger looking for a way in and McCain was just more of Bush/Bush.

My father in-law voted for O but won't have anything to do with his Grand Daughter cause she is dating a black guy, go figure

I am surprised that you, of all people , would start a thread like this.  Political.  Well I have discussed this in another thread, so....

When has a sitting (or otherwise) president been questioned when wanting to address school children at the start of the school year?  Never.  When has a presidents birthplace been questioned?  Never.  When has a president been heckled at a speech to the House and Congress?  Never.  All these things hyave happened to the first black president.  Coincident?  Not with this country's history.

there really is no way to tell why someone does not like another person, all you can do is assume there being honest

We do not need a politician to lead as much as we need someone to blame.
Since personal morality and accountability seem passe`... Makes sense.

I do sense racism when I talk to a lot of people about him.
You can sense it under the surface.
It was those people that said, "Well, these black people can't complain about racism anymore since they have a president!"

Holy crap.

Don't misunderstand.... please.

I run a couple of high end furniture stores. No riff raff coming in looking for $100 bedroom sets, that's for sure. Most of our clients are self proclaimed society hot shots. Sometimes it makes me sick.

What people say when they do feel the need to open up is exactly this..

"Well, these black people can't complain about racism anymore since they have a president!"

And most of the time they are black themselves. A close second is the large indian community, followed by the ever growing muslim community.

I have yet to see a white person (besides myself, the racist bastard) make this statement. At least in my stores anyway.

I'm not agianst people of a different color.... never have been. But if you act stupid and childish in public, I'm going to call you on it. And that can sometimes be misunderstood for racism.

Take the recent shooting here in Rockford. White cops.... black man. Did Jesse Jackson really have to come all the way here to speak for equality? No. But enough morons yelled racism, and that's how everyone is interpreting it now.

Don't believe everything you hear. Not everything is about race. Some of it is actually about facts.

Poor President Carter. Must be hard to try to stay in the news.

Sorry... that was harsh.

Of course you won't hear it in a public place like a store, seems like the northern racists are a little more guarded than bigots down south. At least down south they'll let you know publicly how they hate people of different race out loud, in the open.
You know where you stand with those types, you get the northern types alone where you can freely talk about race and out it comes eventually.

I've heard this comment multiple times, sometimes it suprised me, most of the time it didn't.

And to say racism doesn't play into this is plain, old bull#$%*.

Yeah, that was harsh, Havoc.  You could have said that about Jesse Jackson, and we wouldn't have blinked an eye.

I'll freely admit that leeches like Jackson and Sharpton pull that card a little too much but when has Carter pulled this card?

hehe caught me on a bad day.

You should see the speech he made when the "community members" marched downtown. The guy who got shot lived in a predominantly white neighborhood. A poor one but still... Not a white person in sight. Some "community".

Police this... police that. Poor Mr. Barmore this... History isn't an excuse that. I'd almost expect to get shot and killed if I went for an officer's gun. Wouldn't you?

Not a lot of rhyming this time though.

Jackson is another that I'd love to call a moron in public. He doesn't even know how to get to LA from here. Why in the world would I let him speak for me? Seriously.... duh.
