I think this one was up before in an earlier thread. At the very least, I think the seller is overly optimistic. This is the price range, I think, for a perfect restoration, not an almost wannabe.

I agree, Bob. This one's surely not a perfect restoration:

  • Incorrect shocks...
  • Incorrect finned oil filter cover...
  • No shots including the gas cap latch.. later key type?
  • Wrinkle tank? Doesn't say...
  • I don't see any recess in the igniton switch...

Spot any other issues with this bike?

It looks damn nice, but not 25g's nice. Besides, if you could make that kind of cash restoring these I can tell you I would be restoring and not selling parts  ;D

I don't need a $25,000 CB750.  I've already got one that's worth $100,000 to me.   Maybe more.

The center stand appears incorrect. Looks like it's from a later model.

Not near enough of a fan of the early model to pay such prices. World will build you a correct resto for $21,500 or so.
I'd sooner have 10 $2,150 bikes and have to choose which one to beat on that day. A $21,500 bike is a 530 pound paperweight.

As mentioned, World will get you a 100% correct museum-worthy Sandcast for $21,500.  If I had more money than God, that's what I would do.

However, a quick question about the Sandcast K0s:

I've seen a lot of the differences in photos between them and later 750s (oil filter cover, ignition, seat, etc), but what's the reference to the "wrinkle tank" mean?  I've looked at tons of photos and can't tell WTF is the big deal with the tank?  Is the paint wrinkled?  Is the sheetmetal wrinkled?  Why is it called a "wrinkle" tank?

The sheetmetal is wrinkled. It's really only noticable on the underside of the tank, but you can also look in through the filler spout and see some wrinkling. Some eBay sellers with these tanks have included camera shots into the tank to show them. According to an article on World's restorations, the process to press out the early CB750 tanks was a bit different than that on the later bikes, and it left a bit of a wrinkled appearance on the underside that wasn't there on later tanks. So, this makes them another rare item that (in some people's eyes) adds to the value.

Didn't early pipes lack the brake pedal recess?

Later passenger heat shields were chrome, early ones were not.

I wish my ride looked this good, but I would't be selling it, not even for $25K.

Front fender looks incorrect as it appears to have a rolled front lip.

Hi,

Because Honda didn't know if the 750 would sell, they were casting the early cases in greensand and also, the machines that fabricated the tanks were, I guess, pretty well mostly set up temporarily for hand making. When the model started to sell really well they tooled up for mass production. The wrinkle is on the underside of the tank and is where the machine that stamped or rolled out the metal made a bit of a mess of things and basically mashed it into the desired shape. Do an ebay motors search in completed items for Honda wrinkle and you will probably find one there. Later tanks are nice and smooth and 'properly' made.

I'm a K0 owner but I find all this sandcast mumbo jumbo quite interesting because it is of absolutely no interest to anyone in the world apart from the devotees of the model.  Cheers...
