Soak or not to soak.......clutch fibers??

I just got home from work to see an arrival of my new clutch fibers from parts n more  ;D  Dad tells me I should soak em in ATF overnight before installing them, to increase the life/performance of the clutch,  but I'm all out of tranny fluid and I wanna ride today.  This is my first clutch replace, so I figured I'd ask to see if anyone else does or doesn't do this??

I currently have em soaking in some 10 W 40 honda oil, and if I get convinced enough I'm gonna go install em and fire this bike up.

all opinions welcome...your responses can't be any dumber than most of my questions :-[

I've only ever used 10-40 or whatever auto oil I've had on hand to soak them and they always have worked great.

Dad was right. The pro riders soaked them in ATF overnight or longer. The ATF has antislip properties.

I don't usually question the master, but I lack his patience some times.  He knew the valve clearances, and point gaps on my bike by memory, and he hasn't worked on one of em since the 1980's.

It could depend on the construction of the plates.
EBC and other kevlar plates usually smear with engine oil upon installation.
Cork plates soak in engine oil over night.
I'd like to hear some more about using ATF, never heard that one before...

ATF will increase performance but reduce life of the corks.  The effect is "temporary" i.e a few thousand miles, until the engine oil begins to displace the ATF.  There are two types of ATF; you want type "A", as it is least incompatible with engine oil.  If you like wrenching on the clutch, then ATF is the way to go.  Its less slippery and not as thick as 10W40 when hot.
