I am going to pick up a VStrom in Green Bay, WI on the 17th Oct and ride back to Boston, MA. Likely be mainly on I-90 as only have Sat and Sun but does anyone have any good recommendations for motels around Cleveland- Erie, PA area and/or alternative roads, diners (love diners!) etc...

thanks
Andy

What kind of budget are you working with...room rate that is.  This place is inexpensive and right off I-90 with 6 or 7 good restaurants next to it.  Rooms about $35/night.

+2 on the Lambeau Field visit.  Or failing that, just burn a Vikings jersey in the parking lot.  Either way.

Ok here is my plan for tomorrow:

1. Arrive at Green Bay, WI at 9am...if the early morning flight leaves Boston on time.
2. Drive an hour to Leopolis, WI to pick up the VStrom and have breakfast with seller on the way.
3. Expected latest departure is 11.30am.
4. Google maps has me going down Rt41S/45S to I94 to Chicago to I-90 and hopefully Cleveland, OH by the end of the day - expected ride time 9-10hrs.
5. Likely problems - temps are in the low 40`s and rain/snow mix is expected.

So far... I have myhondas (Ray) number to meet in Cleveland (but be warned I may be arriving around 9-10pm - so maybe breakfast at the diner will be a more realistic option. Hoodleyhoo (Trevor) may be able to meet me along Rt 41/45 in WI.... If anyone else is around and wants to laugh at a Scotsman riding so far in freezing temps let me know ;-)

Ill report back after the trip...

cheers
Andy

There will also be a little hiccup for you as you get into town here. they are working on our interbelt that goes thru town and are planning to close it completely over the weekend. Not sure exactly what will be the best route other than just follow the detour signs for I90. When you stop or get a chance, just give me a call. late is no problem. good luck on the first leg out of wis.

So today I got a call from Andy. He has the bike from WI and is on his way back to stay the night in Cleveland. We had 40 degrees, clouds and some on/off rain in the AM. The skies finally cleared as Andy sped down US41 early this afternoon. Hoodleyhoo met up with him at the local burger joint and promised us some pics and to fill us in on more details. I pray his trip goes well and he hits no bad weather. Let us know how you come out Andy.

Latest update, Andy is going to spend the nite in toledo. Will meet with him in the am for breakfast. Will take some pics of his new ride. Will have to cage it though as I dropped #3 cyl today and will have to trouble shoot it tomorrow. Hopefully it is just the plug or wire/cap connection and not something more serious.

Had the pleasure of meeting up with Andy750 this morning for breakfast. Very nice fellow as I expected he would be. Nice bike!  Lot's a guts on his part to get on a 'new to him' bike and make the trip in these kind of temps and weather as bad as it is in the northeast. Record low temps and snowfalls in PA, NY, & NE states & with it being deer rut season and all. I wish him the very best on his trip.

Proof that he made it to Oshkosh in one piece:

Got to chat over a quick lunch with him. Very nice fellow (bought me lunch!). Wasn't expecting him to be so tall! Hope he made it alright, especially through the areas that got snow.

Made it!! 1250 miles in 2 days ;-) -temps in the low 30s - low 40s all the way...no heated gear, no handwarmers...gear performed ok.

And more importantly made it through the Nor`easter which started at Mass border and lasted all the way along the Mass Pike -wild winds and snow most of the way  :o

Really great to meet Trevor (Hoodleyhoo) and Ray (myhondas) - both really great guys! (Johnie next time!)

More later....bikes great :-P

cheers
