I may regret it but I told him to take his time. I'd rather wait than have him hurry through it. He usually charges $60 a hole so I got the buddy price.
In the meantime I body worked  some dents from a dyno cover and shifter cover. The existing ones had peeling chrome on them.  The work left very tiny cracks on the bottom where I worked the dents out. I JB welded the inside and called it a day. Looks good on the bike. It is a some expense spared project.

Hoowaah, I have cylinders! He apologized for taking so long it was a pretty big cut and he took his time.  The piston clearance is .0012,  top ring end gap is .012, second ring .010 and the oil ring is .0025. I've only checked one cyl so far. I ordered heavy studs and nuts tonight. I have some cleaning to do, and more checking.
I replaced the front wheel bearings. The front end is back on except somehow the unicorn triple tree was cracked, it broke the rest of the way but I have another one that's not powder coated. Yes, I had the D washers in it some old PO  might not have. The powder coat sucked into the break so it was cracked before.

It cooled off a little today so I ventured into the shop and removed the cylinder studs. I wrote a little about it in the tips and tricks section. Pistons and ring fitting continues tomorrow.

My brother came over to help. I ended up putting new shocks on his 76 wing. He tweaked his back getting the formerly lowered wing on the center stand. I spent the next couple hours looking for his other parts and cleaning his tool box. (Put back all his stuff I'd been using.)

Well, I can't believe how long it's been. I've been away from here with the drag racing and rebuilding the top of this engine. I put it together with stock springs and a Honda f2 cam, within two weeks I bent a valve so it's been apart and coming back together all summer. I installed a Kenny Harmon F cam, ARP springs and retainers, ana  mystery header I got from a facebook contact.  I'll catch up on the pictures. It still needs paint but HOLY CRAP is this thing fast.  It needs more brakes for sure.
Pictures to come soon.

Old K stock springs and retainers, an F2 cam and one missed shift. WANNNnnng. At the next stop sign it went ummmuummmpopummmmopopapop ummmmmopoppopapopummm. so I bit the bullet and did it right. I stumbled on a set of stock new valves cheap a couple years ago.

Yes, it's the cruizinimage 836 kit. I had to shim the jugs with two metal shim gaskets and used the MLS head gasket both by Cometic.

Wow, Don, that pipe makes a terrific difference! The old Dunstall 4-2 sets and the Yoshimura RR megaphones were that long, and for good reason. If I ever have to use other than stock pipes myself some day, it will be a 4-2 set made up with ends that long. It really makes a big difference in breathing at 6500+ RPM.

The paint plan was the candy blue green original color. I've given thought to a phantom paint job that looks like one they might have made, black with factory looking gold stripes. The borrowed black tank looks nice with the lesters.

Edit, I attended the estate sale of an old friend and was able to purchase his old sandcast bike. It's the one I used to use for reference for wire routing etc on my diecast bike. I know the guy that assembled it from the crate (first one sold here) and he still owns the second one sold here, that he also assembled.
The second guy never rode it or titled it, it was still in the original owners wifes name. He was the guy that always did the work on it after warranty was over.

Now that I have a sandcast 750 I'm tempted to borrow some of the parts back from the K0'ed bike. I wish my wallet was a bit deeper.

Well, since I stumbled onto this Sandcast bike and the parts will be shuffled between the 69 and 70 I decided to just include both bikes here.

Edit, (it turned out all the grunge was WD40 and dirt, all the original chrome parts were nice and stayed on the bike)

I'm Jonesing for a ride on the 69. It's tempting to rip the carbs and wheels off the 70. I'll try to be grown-up and also avoid all that work. I've got the carbs off the 69 they look WAY better than they did this AM.
All that brown on the starter cover and engine case is the gas that leaked out.  The petcock was left on. I'm betting this was a stinking SOB for a long time.

I remover the highway bar and threw a little wax on it. That sidecover was spiderwebbed with cracks. It's small pieces now.

I'm thinking about that. What's your opinion? The 70 is prety much done except for paint. And the parts I rob off of it to put on the 69. My thinking is the 69 will be as original as it can be and the 70 will be as modified as I would have done, given the resources in 1970. I can compare the two as I go.

Don, I like the double-duty thread!  Yamiya is bringing back the no-number reproduction pipes if you need a set.   The rolled rims are real hard to find, and overly expensive if found on ebay.  I went with a slightly later K0 hoop that only had the DID stamp...got it for $80 shipped on ebay.  New hoops are acceptable for most restorations however, I've found.

Thanks Greggo, I am hoping for some recent real world input on the 69. Things just like the rear rim. I ordered handlebars and carburetor parts yesterday. I learned a few things while wiring the 70 that will help with putting the original type bars back on. The 69  was neglected when the original owner passed away but the work and service done before that was quality.
I'm wondering about differences in the rear hub. The harley rim is gorgeous and I'd like to put that and the crazy ape hanger bars on my retro wall hanging chopper project. I'm assuming the original hub needs to stay on the 69 so I'll get a lesson in truing and spokes eventually.
