450 Speedo Gear, CB550 compatible?
« on: September 30, 2009, 03:56:31 PM »
Hey,
I was wondering if a 450 speedo gear would be compatible for a CB550. or is it each bike needs its own particular speedo..

i guess it may also be important to note i want to use my stock 550 speedometer.

any advice?

I generally wear a leather jacket and long pants, and they work well no matter the bike.  Leave the Speedo's for the pool!  ;)
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

The speedo's of that time all use the same ratio and will operate on most wheels.

That ratio is 2240rpm equals 60mph.

If you use the same drive with the wheel the speedo should work OK.
There are  problems if you change rim sizes, speedo drives etc.

Oh ok.. yea i have this 450 speedo lyin around so I was hoping to use it. Seems like it should work.

I'm keeping my stock 550 rims, and my stock speedometer, so i guess itll be alright. As long as its in the ball park is all that I'm looking for.

If it is disc brake 450, I think it works.  I am betting it is, otherwise it would be a drum brake..
