Bought this bike from a guy in my car club - got it for a STEAL - and decided to fix her up. When I bought her she ran, but had an exhaust leak somewhere.
4-2-1 Supersport exhaust, woo!
All three two wheelers lol...
Low rise euro-style bars (SV650 bars) - 27k original miles.
The gang.
Stripped down.
Example of how easily the rust/grime is coming off - only about 10 seconds with a dremel worth of work right there.
Tail light I'll be using.
Prepped, primed, and painted the two side covers today! Took my time and wet sanded, tried to get it as good as I could for rattle can. Here are some progress shots. Will get finished shots when its all dry on Friday.
Plastic welded. The epoxy on there just wasn't cutting it, had to reattach both upper tabs and of course fix that big crack.
The front where that crack used to be after bondo, before much sanding.
Finally primered and wet sanded.
Three coats of color, haven't cleared yet.
Opposite side cover with clear, its so shiny it gets washed out by the flash lol...
I'm gonna hold off on painting the pillion (tail fairing thing) because to fit my tail light I'm going to have to trim + make a bracket so no reason having to paint it twice.
Detailed plans:
Carb clean/synch
Tuning
New tires for the spring (modern sport touring tires)
Rebuild brakes/new pads/hoses/fluid
Repaint/repair body work (in progress)
Polish/clean all the light surface rust and coat in protective sealant
I'm pretty excited for this thing, and plan to just fix her up, get it running really well, and ride it to and from class and around town - maybe do some touring on it as well. The theme I'm going for is modern street bike influenced, but keeping some the classic elements intact (like emblems). Not going too radical, like a bobber or cafe racer - don't care much for either of those styles. Of course, being me, I'm going to drag race this thing next year. I hope to hit at least high 12's.
So far I've plastic welded all the cracks in the plastics, replacing the epoxy and bondo which had just continued to crack. Also, decided to ditch the rear grab bar, turn signals, and tail light. Gonna put a more modern integrated LED tail light on it from an R6S. I'm gonna mount it to a bracket which I'm making to fit onto the rear pillion. Should look pretty slick and I think front signals I'm gonna do some little LED stalks and move them up onto the headlight mount.
That's all for now, more updates to come shortly
