1/8 throttle woes
« on: October 11, 2009, 05:06:55 PM »
Both of my 350Fs have a flat spot right at 1/8 throttle.  It's most noticeable when revving before a downshift (blubbering) and right at take off from a stop.  My '73 is worse.  Both bikes are very similar.  The '72 is noticeably louder so perhaps the exhaust is more open on it.  Both bikes run great and idle reliably, both were sync'd with my Carbtune.  The '73 has new points/condensors as well.  Timing is dead on.  I ran it earlier today with the air filter removed.  It did appear to make a difference.  I put the filter back in and drastically adjusted my pilot air screws to 2 full turns out.  The 2-4 plugs still carbon up but the blubbering is nearly all gone.  I know it's leaner because now it pops a little upon deceleration.  I hope my modified foam air filter idea will lean it out more.  My idle suffered though, it's nowhere near as rock steady as it was.  I have hondaman's modified emulsifier tubes in the back of my mind but I hope to find a happy medium between my filter and pilot screws.  It is also very hard to start when cold.

I have similar problem.Points gap cured the starting. I have wanted to rejet higher than 75 but havent. What size are you running? Mine also will run fine at 60 mph for miles but the slightest let off of throttle will cause a bit of stumble. Plugs are perfect. Stock airbox/clean filter  with mac 4>1(customized mac baffle) air screws at 1 1/2 out. Maybe my floats are out of whack but i set those things three or four times. I think out on the air screws will make it richer>???

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

I'll check my point gap but I'm sure I went through that when I put the new points/condensor in it.  My mains are 72 on that bike courtesy of Sudco.  I had my carbs off too and I know they are clean set right.  No overflow at all too.  I'm pretty sure out on those = leaner...

I have 4 new 75s i dont need. Ive heard jokes @ sudco points. After you set the points and timing go back to reset the points. Give that an easy shot. Are your nuts on the 8 exhaust studs tight? Did you put new crushwashers in the exhaust ports? Check it. Just trying to help. Getting power from my 350f is like milkin the turkey.
