Topic: soda blasting

Ok i have a motor i dont know when i will get back because the guy that has the soda blasting machine does not know when he will get the hoses out and start up the thing again.So i did some checking on a home version of soda blasting on the cheap.I did order this because someone else posted it worked with soda also on another site.

what are u going to blast? the whole motor or carbs or what?

Right now ,nothing because the motor and carbs are at the shop where they will get them blasted.The reason i checked on How to do it is because next time i will try myself instead of waiting on someone else.

I made something similar to the Soda Blaster in the second link. It worked well for a little while but the time to make it and trouble shoot so it would actually remove rust and corrosion wasn't worth it. I would just pay the $9 for that pre-built Husky from Home Depot.

Also this will not remove paint when using baking soda. I recommend using a cheap powder based laundry detergent if there is some serious grime that needs to come off. Also make sure the parts are as dry as possible, the soda just sticks to any wet spot or clogs up any small openings that are damp.

I would suggest you place bolts in all of the holes before you blast.

I received that Huskey sand blaster today and for the price it looks like a sturdy piece of equipment.I will try to see if i can get it to work with soda also.

I have a small cheap blasting gun with a top feed container.  I used baking soda because they only had the 50 lb bag of blasting soda at the harbor freight.  I think I will have to spend the $35 though because baking soda does not work all that well.  Blasting soda is much more coarse.
