So I have just finished with my 1975 CB550 K1 complete rebuild. The bike went down to the frame and the motor was down to the complete (not split) cases and all the way back up. The bike is now amazing. So I was preparing for a first small scoot around town just to start putting a few miles on the bike, bit by bit to let all the parts match up. Oiled up the bike and off i go, maybe 2 miles away the oil light comes on and I pull over to the side and pushed it back to the shop. Took of the sprocket cover and drive chain sprocket and it looked like the seal the drive shaft comes out with was allowing all of the oil to come out. But it is a new Honda Part seal. So i replaced it again, and looked at the oil pump. The oil pump had not been taken apart, since the bike only had 24,000 on it, so I then took off the pan and cleaned out the pickup, checked the releif valve in the pump, re-oiled and tried again. There has not been any other problem since then, about 15 miles later. But why was the oil pushed out of the seal to begin with? Is that what happens with the releif valve releases and or did the oil pump prime wrong? Any answers would be appreciated.
