Beers, Scotch , Martinis they all help make judgement a little less harsh... We keep the shop stocked so that after hours appreciation starts with the right frame of mind! (Not that everyone needs or condones that...)

Long time between posts but I have been puttering away. Had the bars and rims rechromed, and worked at getting the carbs on the bike. I've washed, cleaned, polshed and plated bits and pieces of the so they came up quite nice. Simmering the rubber manifolds in Wintergreen oil certainly made the job easier. The original carb monting plate was broken in half. Luckily I picked up one some time ago on Ebay. Not a NOS one but a nice one. Slowly, slowly....

A long time between posts but some progress:
K0 rims rechromed, look great,
new brake lines from Pompadori, should order some for the "new" K1,
repro airbox just came in the mail from LPM,
new Honda spokes front and rear but wrong nipples, brassy ones coming,
small stuff at the chromers,
repro seat cover and strap coming in the mail,
found a fellow selling stuff for $20 a bag, great finds-nos brake pads front and rear, rear signal light mount, nos pressure plate, nos brake lines, CB72 and CB77 gasket sets, and more,
new wheel bearings in polished hubs,
mounted switches on rechromed K0 handlebars,
decal kit for tank stripes and warning labels coming in the mail,
ordered more small bits from local Honda dealer.
I'm sure I forgot something.

Long time between posts, lots going on keeping me away from the bike. However parts are arriivng and the spokes and brassy nipples have arrived. My secretaries loved that one!
So good news and bad news. Spokes are great, hub is shiny with good bearings, parts laid - let's assemble this thing. I pull an old wheel on the shelf for comparison as I install the spokes. JUST A MINUTE! The speedo drive on the shiny one is different than the one on the old wheel! I have a look in my John Wyatt book and sure enough. I have a very early, non bump speedo drive wheel - that's good. Unfortunately I've prepared a later model hub. They are both the same width assembled but I should be using the early K0 hub. I didn't even realize I had one but should have looked when I found the 2 hole rear hub. So, bad news, more work to prepare the proper hub, good news is that I HAVE the proper hub. I guess that's progress. I'll check out the bearings today when I get the shop to take off the tire. I'd do it but my knuckles bleed a lot when I do try to remove old tires.
It appears I still have lots to learn about these early ones!

Got the rear wheel assembled, new spokes with brassy nipples, freshly chrome K0 rim (rolled?), new bearings. It's a 2 holer. It came out nice.

Got the parts back from the chromers! Now I can remove the locking gas cap latch from my K1 and replace the non shiny starter cover on the K0. Also had the front hub bearings replaced. So, the job for tonight is to remove the spokes on the rim so I can get started on the clean up of the K0 hub to install it in the newly chromed rim with the new spokes and brassy nipples. That just kind of conjures up all kind of thoughts - brassy nipples. Ha!

A good day! Took the old K0 front rim pictured above to the local shop and had the tire removed and new bearings installed in the hub. Came home and removed the spokes to get the hub out of the rim. Cleaned it up and brought it back to life. It's interesting in that the centre part of is highly polished where the k1's are not.
Then I got out my new spokes, brassy nipples and rechromed rim and got to work. Now they are one. So both rims ready to be trued and have tires mounted.

I already posted this in a new thread but I want to keep this thread as an ongoing progress report.

Hey!
Just before I hit the rack, I think I have a bent rear frame. It's an unscientific method but I put  a long screwdriver through the tangs at the rear of the bike and marked centre. I then dropped a specially designed plumb bob down and measured the distance between the ends of the swingarms. You can see in the pictures that the distance to centre from the left side is about 4 3/8", from the right, 5". What these means I think is that the entire top rear frame has been pushed over to the left somehow but there's no evidence of major trauma to the frame other than a small mark in one of the muffler mount tubes on the right side and the plate over top rear of the frame having a slight depression. You can also see that the left shock is on an angle too. All the other frame tubes are unmarked. I know the early frames and welding were not the greatest but this is beyond poor assembley I think.
I know the steering head was tweaked but I had this repaired.
I put my new rim in the swingarm and you can see the difference between the centre of the rim and the screwdriver. Dammit. I put an old rear wheel assembly is and it's really apparent.
S**T! I'm pretty sure this is very difficult to fix.

If you can get the bike set as a "roller", you MAY be able to take it to a auto body shop that has a frame straightener, and they may be able to "tweak" it a tad to straighten it out....otherwise, you can live with it, or disassemble the bike, fix the frame, re-powdercoat, and then re-assemble. :( :( :(

This is REALLY bad news, bud. :(

P.S. and you've already tweaked the headtube once???  This old gal had a TOUGH life with a PO.

I think its time for you to talk to Hondaman, if anyone has run across this before it would be him. He may even have a suggestion.. If it were me I would PM him and see what he has to say about it before you do anything..

Ok, after  reading your thoughts and a poor night's sleep here's what I did today, not sure what I proved but it seems like I found the culprit.
I tried to work on it just on the centre stand which was terrible and I had a slow motion fall to the floor with it. So I put some eye hooks in the ceiling, strapped it up and leveled it. Next removed the lower engine mount. I bought two 3' x  3/8" steel rod (checked for true on a long level at the store). You'll see in the pictures that the rod through the lower engine mount, one through the swing arm mount holes, a rod through the muffler mounts, a level across the frame in the battery box area and  another across the tabs at the rear of the bike are all the same level. The bubble was just touching the right side line on all the points. I think this means there's no twist in the frame there.
I replaced the shocks with some stouter ones and put the wheel in with the same result as last night. So, out came the swing arm and in went a K2+ one. It all seemed to line up much better. The centre of the tire was closer to the centre of the bike now with the old wheel and my new rim. I then laid one of the steel rods next to the inside of the rear sprocket and the inside of the primary and it looked like then lined up fine. The rod was touched both edges of the drive sprocket and the full sideof the primary. I also put the level on the bare axle in the K2 swingarm and it was then same as the others.
Conclusion, the K0 swingarm must be buggered. I hope!
I didn't get to my centre stand issue today.
Now I need another K0 swingarm. Anybody got a good one?
I'll repeat this in my build thread so I ahve a record of it.
