What are the specs for the diode?   I've got the same issue on my 77.....

I had found a source for $10 each, but I would have to do some research to find out where. I bought three of them at that price.


Edit: One of the other symptoms I was experiencing was that the starter would not engage in neutral with the clutch handle out. I would have to pull the clutch in, even in neutral, in order for the starter to engage. The diode (called "rectifier" on the parts fiche) is usually suspended from a little rubber grommet on the back of the battery tray, above the plastic inner fender. Just follow the wires up to it, it's hard to spot!
