Picked up some rear shocks, new chain and a tank from a member here. Not sure if his secret identity can be disclosed! Thanks once again!

Was going to take the 500 for a nice long run... but she developed some problems.  I looked at the forum and got her straight.   ;)
Soooo... instead of my nice long run, I did a couple laps close to home.  Ran great... got her easily up to 80.
Maybe tomorrow she'll get her long run.   8)

Rode to work and put some rubber down - minivan mother yapping on the phone pulled out of her driveway. Scared the crap out of me even i expected her to do something stupid.

yesterday i rode over to a friend's house and parked in her driveway - the kind that's just 2 strips of concrete for the car tires to roll on.  put the kicker down, thought i was solid, but as i started to dismount the kickstand slipped and the bike tipped.  i saved it, mostly, but my knee dented the back of the tank :(  36 years with no damage, and i had to be the one to do it.  ugh.  looks like a baseball hit it.

I feel like switching back to the stock airbox just to see how it feels. Quick question about it though, does there need to be a complete seal between the box and the bladder ("chamber")?

Will also make an attempt at polishing something. Not sure what yet.

Might also mount my seat properly, instead of the half-assed, crooked way I mounted it.

With the stock filter system in place the only way air should get into the engine is through the airbox intake.

Damn :( Any suggestions on getting that seal then? I have the rubber ring that goes on the filter housing, but it just doesn't seal with the chamber. The forward housing bracket is missing, which is part of the reason I can't get a seal.

If I couldn't get it to seal and couldn't find the part to fix it I would use some sort of sealant like Tigerseal or Sikaflex.

Installed pods on the carbs.
Changed main jet from 105 to 110

Mixed screw to 3/8 of a turn.
Tuned ignition timing.

All other services such valve adjust and spark plug, carb synch etc. All done prior of this mod.

Runs very good in all speeds specialy at higher speeds.
The pipes have the tips removed and I'm at sea level.
Found my combo right out of the bat.

Started prepping my tank for paint. Put a coat of black Smoothrite on the underside. Rubbed down the upper and went for the filler. Damn, I don't have any. Another £10 I need to spend tomorrow.  ::)

Tracked down a small oil leak hopefully, one of my oil pan bolts was missing. Hunted for my carb vent nipple on my 77's PD41a's, turns out it doesnt have one after all. Checked the valves for good measure while I had the tank off, pulled apart my spare set of PD's while I was out in the garage. Oh and rode the crap out of it to and from work today, so far my master link is staying put for a change. :)

There is a carb float bowl vent.

Went down to Charlie's Place after work for a speedometer cable.  Played him my video of the turbo bike screaming, and shot the #$%* about his Benly (1958 125cc 4spd).  Talked about maybe buying one of his tanks when I get my next 750 project. He showed me a bike in the shop with the same Benelli tank as the turbo, too.

I drained and then pumped the foul smelling (but clean looking) oil out of my forks, flushed then with solvent, blew then out with compressed air, and then refilled them with 10w fork oil.  Man, 5.4oz is not that much at all.

I also made a big mess on my garage floor with foul smelling fork oil and solvent.  Luckily, I had it cleaned up before the wife got home, and the solvent smell is mostly masking the foul fork oil smell.

Replaced my tank with my new 500t. Had to trim down the rubber mounts and nipples on the frame to allow the tank to fit. My 550F petcock works perfect. Also had to use my bench grinder to trim roughly 2.5 inches off my seat. Hard to see the look but I'm digging. I may move all electrical to under the seat but that will take electrical skills I do not have. Plus I really do not want to hack up my wires. Time will tell though

Ha, ya Stev-o, it kinda is!  I just buy parts there now, but I always enjoy my visits.  Charlie's a cool dude, and Rab, the guy who worked on my CB500 still remembers my bike from like two years ago.  Charlie once took that Benly on a local ride called the '49 mile ride' for pre 1975 bikes, which is a play on the 49 mile drive in San Francisco.
