Haha, nothing like a heart in your mouth moment...

I rode to work and ordered new tires and tubes, my tires have been fine on dry pavement but not so reassuring on wet roads.

Rode the 1972 CB350F all day in beautiful late Fall weather.  Every take off was a full wind out resulting in a wave of sound flowing through the Ontario Countryside

I didn't get this today but finally downloaded a few pics. Kind of a bitsa 1974 750. I did however get the diffusers for the set of 341's that came with this bike as spare parts!

Well, this is the first CB I bought that has started on the first time I attempted to start! if you look close, the rear wheel is small, I think it is from a DOHC 750.. Also the front handle bars are really small, mast cylinder hits the speedo.... Exhaust is the loudest I've had ever.... Tank is pretty gnarly inside but nothing a cleaning won't hurt. I actually like the fairing. Oh yeah, the pipes are sweet on my gold K1. Sound good too! The original parts for the 74 750 came in a box too.

After a nice ride home from work. I did the 3k tuneup and then took it for a short night spin on the twisty road in my backyard. :)

I walked to the shed, opened it, took the soft fluffy cover off my 400,said "Hi" and started her up to check the idle. Yep, 1200rpms that's what the good book says. Closed the door and walked away.  Tommorrow is ride day!  8)

I like that K4 Tews. She sure looks clean. I have to admit I am not a fan of that fairing, but look on the good side...at least it came without the nasty KQ seat.  :)

Almost didn't make it home. There was 100 more miles on the tank than I thought.

Put a new throttle cable and headlamp on the 550. I must say 60 watts is much better than 35.   ;D

No I don't think so, it's the same "Shoei" that make helmets, and even though they were "inexpensive" back in the day, they were quite good quality, from memory. If you ever take it off, I'll buy it. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Well I've had a busy day. I bought an 18 inch rear wheel on EBay for my "Hog" (Honda CX500) to replace the OEM 16 inch skateboard wheel, as I want to raise the gearing a tad, 6000 RPM at 60 MPH is a bit high for me, plus the larger wheel will fill the gap under the seat some.

I drove over to Ace Motorcycle Wreckers to order some new tires (Pirelli Sport Demons on Dave's advice) for it and to borrow their "Trade Plate" for the weekend so I could take the little V twin for a ride. The tires that are currently on it (Bridgestones of the era) are very worn, it was no wonder to me that the PO dropped it one day on a wet road.

While I was there, I spotted a beautiful (but slightly tired) Honda GL1200 Aspencade "Full Dresser" parked off to one side.

This thing is huge, it's got the big fairing with a stereo and CD player, panniers, massive top box, lounge suite for a seat with a big padded backrest etc etc. It turns out that it came in with a "rumbling sound" (but not a good one) and Jeff quoted the owner a lot to rebuild the engine, so the owner decided to cut his losses and told Jeff to keep it. Jeff doesn't wreck bikes anymore, so I asked the fatal question, "How much mate?" And now............. I own a Goldwing! I'll pick it up next week, and park it in the back of my garage until I've got some money to spend on it.

Jeff thinks it just needs new main bearings, but if I'm gonna go to the trouble of stripping the engine down, I may as well give it a birthday and replace all the "usual suspects" while I'm at it. Apart from that, the bike just needs tidying up, and it'll be fit for full touring duty. I might have to sell my Bavarian Murder Weapon though, I've run out of space in my garage and the BMW needs a new home. I did take a pic of the 'wing with my phone camera, but for some reason Photobucket won't recognise it?

Anyway, I got home and attached the trade plate to the little "Hog", and fired it up. It's uncanny how this little beast is running so well after sleeping for the last 14 years with no carb cleaning, and the same spark plugs that were fitted in the last century, but anyway, I rode around to the gas station and filled up the tiny 13 litre tank with 98 RON unleaded.

I was going to use 91 RON, but these engines run 10:1 compression pistons and redline at 9750 RPM, so I figured it'd like the "Good Stuff", and it did seem to run a little smoother, or that might have just been because it was allowed to run for more than just a few minutes, as it has since I got it running last weekend.

My front brakes don't work. The OEM MC was clagged, so I quickly fitted a CB750F2 MC that I had laying around last weekend without bleeding it, left it in my garage all week, and when I came home last night, the lever was hard, so I assumed that it had bled itself, which it probably had, but I think the caliper pistons have frozen into the caliper bodies. No biggie, except I rode it for 40 miles today with no front brakes, which was fine except when I forgot about it and almost rear ended a car on the freeway at warp speed. (thank God for the Emergency Lane!)

All in all, a great day. I bought some parts, ordered some new tires, bought a Goldwing and went for a ride on my little "Hog". If I'd died and gone to Heaven yesterday, I'd have been pissed off to have missed out on such a great day today! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ha ha, I thought someone would like that Larry. The trouble we have is that not every country railway crossing here has a boomgate and at 60 MPH, (the speed limit on that road) the earlier you can see the sign, the more chance you have of pulling up.

I use that road for my WOT experiments, and the trains aren't my biggest concern, it's the regular overhead passes made by the police helicopter that regularly patrols the area looking for speedsters. I usually park the bike and wait for the chopper to fly by, that way I know I'm safe for half an hour or so. Cheers, Terry. ;D

G'Day Dave, I can't seem to get any pics I download to work, but here's a link to a pic of one the same model as mine: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Honda_Gold_Wing_1200.JPG

I've been doing some more research, mine has a 22 litre tank, and the other specs don't look too bad for a "Land Yacht" either! ;D

Terry, back in my wrenching days we never call a behemoth Gold Wing a land yacht, the proper phrase was land barge :D :D. You'l enjoy the ride though as they really are fairly well balanced for their montrous size and as smooth a ride as imagineable...Larry

There is no point trying to buy a used Honda in Victoria because Terry keeps buying them all!

And I have been searching for a GL1000 or 1100 or 1200 for a good six months.

Welcome to Goldwings, Terry!  Yes, the 12's are 4-bangers where as that 1500 graymarket bike is a 6.  The 12's have a habit of shorting out their stators, so watch your charging voltage carefully.  To replace the stator is an engine out operation.  Many opt to mount an external alternator driven off the front timing belt pulley.  Join this site (www.goldwingfacts.com) and search "poor boy" for details.

Also, the three yellow stator wires like to melt the connector next to the battery.  If that connector is still there and scorched, clip the wires and solder/shrink wrap 'em instead.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Thanks Larry, I had a 1975 GL1000 back in the early 1980's, and it was "Turbine smooth", but I fell foul of some electrical problems and sold it. I wish I still had it, with all the info available now on the 'net, it probably would have been an easy fix. "Land Barge"? How disrespectful! Is the QE2 a "Barge"? I think "Yacht" or perhaps "Launch" is much nicer! ;D

Hey thanks mate, that "what to look for" section will be handy when I rebuild the engine, I'll sort all those electrical problems while I'm at it, and look for other "wear and tear" items, the PO of this bike did not look after it at all!

And the tourney... uhh yeah that was fine.  ::)
