i secured a large tarp over it to be sure that it didnt get rained on TOO much today. 2 pairs of gas station vice grips work great for the job. too poor and cheap to buy a proper cover right now. especially with a potetially huge fine looming.

Today I was wrapping up my 3-day bike makeover. Well, minor stuff. Had wednesday-friday off work, so I decided to give the ol' girl some love. Pulled the wheels and painted the rims black. Major headaches ensued. Pulled the front fender, stripped the chrome (big rust spots and the chrome was peeling away pretty bad), and painted it black. Buddy dropped it on the floor on accident (Doh!). Cleaned it back up, hit some more clear coat on it. I have to get more tomorrow but that will be done. Also finished up the wheels. Letting the clear coat sit overnight before I pull off the masking tape. So by tomorrow night I should have her put back together. Also spent the last few days cleaning the carbs real well. A 1 hour simple green bath made them sparkle like (almost) new, then a thorough cleaning of the guts. And on top of everything, I had quite a fantastic time sanding and polishing the front sprocket cover, the other left hand cover, and the brake drum. I think I'm now developing arthritis in my shoulders and wrists, haha.   >:( All said and done, she looks world better, but still quite a ways to go. Only had it a month but it is a totally different motorcycle than the one I bought.

So, on the agenda for next week - finish cafe seat fabrication, paint seat and repaint tank, new headlight bucket, fork gaiters, new headlight ears, sleek new turn signals front and back, and I'm sure I'll come up with more stuff to do. Good heavens, these bikes are addicting!

Yea!  That looks good and stable!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

I accidentally knocked the gas tank onto the floor and dented it! That didn't make me very happy at all.

Well they guy who shipped me the wrong forks should have another set on the way soon and I came home from work to find my new set of dunlop 404's... Ooooo shinny  ;D  So with any luck I'll have my forks and rim next week and then I can switch the rim, brake system, forks, get the tires mounted, rebuild and sync the carbs, kream my tank, rebuild the petcock, shorten the rear fender, fab a taillight mount, paint the tank and side panels.... Peice of cake should be done in a week right?

Petcock came in the mail today, installed it.

Removed chain with old an old chain, cleaned in kerosene, lubed and re-installed.
Lubed clutch cable, lube tach and speedo cables, install new tach drive seal in head.
Finally made up some spade connectors and bullet wires to connect to my better horn.

Clean-up bike and road around the neighborhood.  Visited Chippyfive50.  He was busy mulching the front of the house.

Riding tomorrow for sure.  Hopefully the wife will be pleased that the leaky gas problem is solved.  I hope.

CX project?!?!? Got a link? I still have my CX and it will be my daily rider this summer. Other than changing the bars to Touring, it is pretty much stock (ie. porky) so always looking for ideas for next winter....

Changed out the right side starter/kill switch assembly.  The new one comes with a purple kill switch so I took the red one off the old assembly and changed that out too.  Thought about mounting the tank and going for a spin and then noticed my tabs are out of date. :(

I ordered Kit a tail light for her CL350. She really likes the smaller one on my '69 so I got her one of those. Much cooler.  ;D

Still waiting on those parts, miss postie.  :P

I finally got my carb problem solved. As it turns out, as they say in car world, the problem was the nut behind the wheel.  ::)

ohhh the nut between the handlebars and the seat?  That one gives me nuthin' but trouble, but the bike doesn't ride right without it. :-\
