I wish I had free unfettered access to a lathe nearby...
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

Started my bike with it's new cam trying other jets.
I need custom made pilots for my mikuni carbs.
15 just too small despite air jet 0.6.
17.5 just too large despite air jet 0.9. Larger air jets than 0.9 not possible either, too lean middle and up.
I guess that 16.5 would be fine.  ::)

Well it's another beautiful day here in the deep south of Oz. The wife forced me at gunpoint to mow the lawn and pull down the Christmas lights, (well, they were becoming spider nests, so fair enough) but as soon as I'd done that I hopped on the ol' Battle Scarred Galactica and went for a hot lap.

I'd had it on the charger overnight, and it started on the first brush of the button, and up to 70 MPH it was as smooth as silk. I took it up to my secret road and gave it the berries, and sadly it missed and farted up to around 90 MPH, but it wasn't happy.

It felt like fuel starvation, but it could have been an ignition issue, either way I didn't stop to examine it, as I was 30 miles from home with few tools, and I was not keen on pushing it, so I limped home. (when I say limped, under 70 MPH it was fine again) It's kind of typical of working on old bikes, you fix one thing, and something else becomes an issue........ ;D

Still running points? If so, try replacing the condensers. That should cure it.  ;)

Eric
That will be even worse when air jet 0.9 gives more air into pilot circuit. Pilot 15 with smaller air jet maybe, like 0.5.
Pilot 17.5 is also correct for the throttle cut-out 1.5 according to what I have read on other forums for VM29. Air jet 0.9 works OK.

I have to compromise by opening the air screws a little. From 1/2 turn out to ~3/4 might improve. But all my road tests so far with plenty of combinations have always worked best with air screws opened 1/2 turn out.

I'll might get some good ideas how to make 16.5 pilots. All 4 must be exactly the same...

The clutch cable on the Z1 was a tad long, so I changed it out today with the stock length replacement.
Then, of course I had to take it for a test ride down by the River on a gorgeous winters day, all good.

Then, I thought I would go "check fences", alls good there too, these big boys arent getting out anytime soon...

Maybe throw some steaks on the barbie tonight?

Definite YES to those steaks.
I see that your street bikes also double as off-road bikes just like mine.  :D
What is the name of the reservoir/lake that the Kwacker is next too?
Did you replace the condensers on the 750 yet?

The Z1 is parked by the Colorado River, called Lake Travis when levels are higher (still in a drought down here).

My K4 has had electronic ignition since I've owned it and runs fantastic, no points/condensers on this one.

Eric

No way Eric, I haven't run points in any of my bikes in 30 years or so, points went out with 8 track stereo's didn't they? Nope, I think it's either running too lean with the stock carbs (with 130 mains, from memory) or the float levels need looking at.

I'm torn between continuing to use the stock carbs (because they're easier to live with than my 31mm CR's) or have another go at setting up the twin 34mm Mikuni carbs that I probably didn't spend enough time with when I bought them a year or two ago. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Didn't do a lot except jump up and down with glee when I went to the letterbox and found the latest copy of Cafe Racer magazine waiting for me.

The Knott CB550 is rather nice, even if he stole my scooter headlamp idea.
