I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

I bought one!

Bought it? Or freed it from its kidnappers??
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Yeah, that really detracts from the look, what a shame. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Finally a good day here to take a Friday afternoon off and get the bike back home from storage. Warm up ride, followed by a vac sync, followed by some plug chops, followed by a 35 mile ride home. Everything went well... she's running great! Can't wait to actually put some miles on this summer instead or sort out issues. (Knock on wood)

2nd cb500- changed the pilots from #40 to #38 without pulling the carbs out. Runs a lot better, but still rich - I don't know why as I have all original intake, air cleaner and now four into four exhausts also on her and the carbs have been professionally reconditioned by harisuluv.

Finally got my rebuilt 836 engine finished and installed today.

Now I am busy finishing the fit off.

Quick question - when I fit the new rubber horns into the air box it looks like they then angle away from the air box, should they all angle up or down to match the carbs?

The carb rubbers were dead easy - all numbered 1 to 4 for order and angle.

Sorry Cliff, I've only ever replaced them once, and all I remember was it was a bugger of a job angling them all in to fit. ;D

What a day. I rode the big Yamaha the 400 miles down from Canberra to Melbourne yesterday, so today I took it over to Jeff at Ace to get some new front discs, pads, and a new Pirelli Angel GT tyre.

On the way home I stopped in at Repco and picked up 5 litres of Penrite HPR10 Gas oil, which is supposed to be really good for FJR1300's, plus a litre of Morey's oil additive. I've used Morey's for years, I knew some guys who ran a dodgy car yard years ago, they had a 200 litre drum of the stuff, if you added a litre to a rattley 500 dollar clunker's engine/gearbox/diff it'd come out sounding like a new car. They gave me some to try in one of my cars and I liked it so much I still use it now.

This bike is all about long distance comfort, not form over function. The seating position is more upright than a sports bike, but still a little bit of a reach forward, so I saw some "Heli Bar" risers on eBay and had to have them. They raise the bars an inch, and bring them back closer to the rider. They are engineering porn too, which helps.

Anyway, by 4 pm it was all back together, and I'd had enough of working on bikes for one day. Oh, that's the new "V Stream" windshield, which is great in cold weather, but awful when it's warm. I'll leave it on for the next few months because it's only getting colder here, but it'll be coming off once it warms up again. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I bought carb sync gauge set.

I allmost gave up trying to get the float levels right. Im losing my mind because the level just aint getting right. Its flooting or its dry:(  I have haynes manual but there is no explenation about setting float level. Do i bent the little edge on the floater or how do you guys do that?

The sync went ok. Its running pretty smooth and doesent pop or have lack of power on low revs

Here's the float level gauge I built (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,141388.msg1714948.html#msg1714948 and http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,141388.msg1715190.html#msg1715190). Only thing I'd do different is make it 26 mm on both sides (instead of the large cut-out on the 'bottom' in the dimension picture in the second link). And, yes, you bend the little metal tab in the middle of the float arm that presses the float valve (the one with the little spring loaded nipple) to set the height. You can see it in the second picture here (http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php/topic,141388.msg1612028.html#msg1612028). Make sure the float valve springs aren't seized, and make sure you don't compress them when you're setting the height. It's a bit delicate, but definitely doable! Hope that helps.

Last grind session on the upper case so the 70mm sleeves fit with clearance all around. 67.5mm bores, 901,75cc. (Often called 915cc kit)
My K6 case must have extra meet since the 70mm sleeves are sold to fit withput case bore.

Good reason for extra cleaning of the case. Blow it clean with air removed most of the alu dust but much left outside and inside, channels too. Cleaned with dish washer powder and used a big syringe to fluch all channels clean plus the small debris collecting compartments in front of the bores inside.
Then another rincse session with clean waater. Blowed it dry in channels and outside with my compressor.

Upper case will mate with lower case tomorrow, seal and torque it.

One question in mind.
Is that 26mm the measure when float needle closes?

when the tip of the float needle just touches the floats. you have to hold the carb rack in an angle to get to that point...

I have not posted on the forums in a couple years probably, but I felt the bug to do some work to the ol' cb750 so I decided it was time to come back. ;D

Busy day I replaced the Master cylinder, put on new stainless steel lines and fittings and bled the system.

Had the carbs off already made sure they were clean reset float height installed new carb boots. Reinstalled carbs and air box.

Replaced the old points plate for a new oem TEC plate and did my 3000 mile tune up with a fresh oil change. She idles cold now too :))

Oh and put on some new grips and going to try out some bar end mirrors since I got tired of starring at my arms with the old mirrors.

Hi Ollie,

Hi Jerry,

Marriage, kid, house, job change, another job change, new house... Just life! This house FINALLY has room for me to work on the bike. It's the first time in my life where I feel like I have both the tools and the space to fix / create things. The bike was in a garage about 3 miles away.

Also, after the first kid, my "life" (as in alive - not dead or severely incapacitate) has become more important - even with life insurance ;) ! It was quite a campaign to get the wife on board with me getting back on a bike but we are getting there. No time to live like the present.

Our second kid is due in a few weeks... Wish me luck!

Fitted the new rubber carb boots, the rebuilt carbs, the new rubber air filter boots, the reconditioned filter box, the oil tank and oil lines.

Now it looks like a bike again, tomorrow should see the chain, exhaust, coils and leads, throttle cables, clutch cable, and a few other bits fitted.

I have managed to track down two oil galley plug bolts for the underside of the engine and I have ordered a Joker Machine oil pressure gauge (and a kick start spindle cover as I don't think the old kicker will work too well with the Tarozzi rear sets).

Then it is all down to wiring and tuning.

Well on Saturday April 23rd  I took my CB750 for it's first ride on the street.  After about 10 months, I got to ride it!  ;D  During those 10 months, I changed out the fenders, the exhaust, tires, seat, horn, added blinkers, had the carbs off several times, and had the oil lines rebuilt.  Slow but steady.   Still have some tuning to do, but it ran pretty good.  I'm a happy camper.

Thanks!  About the time I took a few pics, I was enjoying a beer in the shade with my Honda, feeling kind of proud that another SOHC has been brought back to life.  Here in "sunny" Tucson, shade is appreciated.  I'll get some pics in the sun and post them.
