I started Samson and contemplated on whether I wanted to take a chance with black ice.  I let him idle for about 5 min then shut him down.  Maybe the next clear dry day.

whew, what a job!  cleaned every electrical connection on the bike, from front to back.  didn't count the hours, but glad it's over.  everything still works, and with 12.1v at the battery have 11.91 at the coils.   8)

I pinned the speedometer drive to the Lester mag hoping to get the speedometer to work. It didn't, the cable is broken. I robbed one from parts bike still not working. Checked the speedometer with the broken cable end in a drill and it was stuck. Put on the E-bay speedometer and tach and wired the idiot lights to work for the first time since I've owned it. They all work hooray! Now I want some new faces for them. Even with the oil gauge I still like having the oil press light and neutral light. Everything is finally working so I can take it apart for paint.
No matter how many times you paint over a shadow, it's still there.

Well, under the assumption that I had all the parts I needed to reinstall the swing arm on my 750K5 I started to work on that. After discovering that my swing arm bolt was bent and I likely needed a replacement I decided to pop the valve cover off a K4 motor I picked up a few weeks ago.
This engine only has ~6K miles on it and at some point I'll install it in place of my original engine which has a cracked & repaired case. I want to replace some gaskets and get it cleaned up and painted.
Anyway, as I hoped the top end looks super clean. I can still read the ink-stamped date code on the inside of the valve cover.

Do you have a copy of the Honda Shop Manual or Parts List for your bike? Get one here:

Started the tear down of the K4 this weekend. Packaging up the chrome to deliver to my chromer this week. The K1 paint will have to wait until I get the K4 done. Yes, I will be removing the aftermarket bars the PO has on there.

I re-installed my new speedometer cable.  No joy!

Spinning the front wheel only turns the inside of the cable in if the wheel is going in reverse!  ???

Found a salvage speedometer assembly box on Ebay.  Now I'm waiting on payday to order it.

Don't mind not having my speed reading, but sure wish I could keep track of my miles.

Yep but my speedo only goes up to 80mph, after that it's all guess work! Mind you the fastest cars in NZ in 1979 were old 6 cylinder Holdens (GM) and Fords, highway speed limit was 60mph then and law abiding citizens pulled over for flashing lights.....not any more of course. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Lee, what happens if you put the front wheel in the other way around?
Are all Hondas' left side speedo driven?

That, Hush, is a good question.  Did you get the idea because you are on the other side of the equator???

Maybe I'll try it (maybe, not).

Lee

Oh, and Bikey's speedo (when it worked) only goes to 85, so I know what you mean in your previous post.

It's more like what I did yesterday...  I finally got the kinks out of my transmission (I think), it's amazing how a loose bolt and an out of place spring could cause so much trouble.  I also got the leaky fuel petcock swapped with a new one that doesn't leak.

Also helped Fabricator get his All Balls tapered steering bearings in and adjusted, along with rebuilding the front caliper while we were there.  Next will be cleaning up the forks and new seals and gaiters.

AAHH the joys of the winter projects. ;)
