I bought a complete 76 GL1000 front end to swap onto my 75K. I'm kind of stoked.

I installed the new brake lever then finished installing the valves in Al's head, and torqued it down. Today I'll loosen everything off again and re-torque it, and finish assembling the engine so Al can put it under his Christmas tree, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks Santa!!!!!

al

Hey nice tits Al! Well I had a sh1t day, kind of. I woke up nice and early and washed my long suffering BMW in anticipation of my 200 mile ride to visit my folks for an early Christmas, then I finished assembling Al's engine, so far so good.

I had to ride up to an ATM to give the wife some bucks, and when I came home she was carrying my big black cat, Chopper, who was dead. Chopper was only 3 years old, but (a bit like Bucky) was gonna get put down by the pet shop when he was a kitten before I intervened, because he had the cat flu and ringworm, but I took him to the vet and much against her wishes, she gave him some treatment, and the poor thing survived. He grew into a big tough bugger, but the respiratory issues never went away entirely, and he'd wheeze like a fat man sometimes. It looks like he'd laid down for a nap, and died in his sleep. Very sad, he was a good mate.

Anyway, I buried him, and gave the wife some more money and told her to find us another cat. We've got three other cats, but she loves them like her own children, and I've found that the best therapy for her is to have another kitten to look after, so I hope she's got one by now. I continued with my planned trip to see my folks, it was pretty hot (around 80 degrees or so) but it's gonna be 100 tomorrow, so I didn't want to delay my trip. I stopped at a mates place and we held an impromptu Irish wake for Chopper and toasted his achievements over his short life with some icy cold beer, then I left before I got too comfortable, and continued on to my folks place.

About 20 miles from home, something freaky happened, either a big rock or a big stick managed to enter my helmet and hit me just above the left eye while i was riding at around 70 MPH with such force it literally turned my head around. I managed to stay concious and pulled over to the side of the road, but couldn't see much damage, so I continued on. By the time I got home I had an egg where my eyebrow used to be, but I'm none the wiser as to what almost sent me off to be reunited with Chopper. Oh well, another life experience. Good thing was the BMW ran like a German watch, and no more brake problems, which is great. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

G'Day Mick, thanks for that, I really do miss the big bugger, but there'll be more cats, and sadly more cats will kark it before I leave my mortal coil. It's like "fire and movement", you just gotta keep moving forward.

Your swingarm is probably off a K4-k6, Honda fitted a grease nipple around then, but the earlier ones didn't have one, like you say. I've been trying to remove a set of bushes from a K2 arm for a while now, I did the hacksaw cuts but the two halves are well rusted into place, so I might have to introduce them to my friend, Mister oxy torch.

Your bike looks great mate, and it's good that you're not trying to restore it back to original K0 specs, I'd hate to think what it's cost me to replace all the K1-k6 stuff that was on it with the "correct" K0 parts over the couple of years I've had mine, and it still looks like a POS!

Oh well, it is exciting when you find a correct part, I got that great "wrinkle" tank off Ron  couple of weeks ago, (MCRider) and I won some correct K0 shocks on EBay this week, got 'em for 90 bucks, but only after I bought a pair of K1 shocks off the same seller then discovered his/my error, so we're in the process of negotiating some sort of compensation for the cost of the first set. All I need now is a recessed ignition and key and some mirrors, and I can go from "parts gathering" mode, to the next phase, starting the cosmetic resto. Luckily for me, the engine is a gem. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Great photos Mick especially as I am due to do the swingarm removal myself in the next week or whenever it gets above freezing.

I got lucky, I dug a 2-70 frame out of the storage bin for the correct swing arm and chain guard, it was quite snug and when I got the bolt to rotate out there was a Honda replacement bushing set already there. The fit seems a little snug so I may lap it in a little. I also retrieved the center stand with a little help from mr. torchie. More stuff for the KO. Cleaned and boxed for the re-build.

Well I woke up this morning (which is always a good thing to do..........) at 0520 and decided that was a good time to hit the shower, then hit the road. I had a great stay at my parents house, but was looking forward to the 200 mile return trip. After cleaning up my mess (my mom is 81 now, so she doesn't need to clean up after me) I planted a couple of Christmas presents (Chivas for Dad and Chocolates for Mom) and fired up the BMW after cleaning all the birdsh1t off it, these damn sparrows must all have upset stomachs, there was about 10 bird-turds on it, I wish I'd packed my BSA air rifle, to despatch those little feathered freaks!

I stopped at the 100 mile mark and had breakfast and gassed the bike up again, at 8am it was still around 90 degrees but was starting to sprinkle rain so I put the wet suit on, and of course, no more rain, so I just sweated like a pig for the last 100 miles in my "Sauna Suit". Anyway, back home now and resting up for tonight, we're going over to my wife's niece's new place for their big family Christmas Eve BBQ, we normally have it here so I was a pit peeved initially, but to stop me from having a "hissy-fit", they've made me "BBQ Master" for the evening, so I'll be looking after the meat burning duties, which will be cool.

Christmas Day is less than 12 hours away here in Oz, so Merry Christmas Men, (and Ladies) and I hope you all get what you deserve, er, I mean, what you're hoping for! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Today I pulled off the last of the bits off my daily rider I need to be able to get my other '79 cb650 back to all stock.
It was the thing the neutral and  oil pressure lights are in.

Looks kinda odd having one heavily modified '79 cb650 right next to a completely stock '79 cb650 in the same garage!
You would guess they were at least different years of the same model.

Anyways, I'm jelous of some of the polish jobs I've seen in this thread!
gorgeous.....
Nothing like a 30+ year old motor shining better than when it was new!!

Today i emptied my gas tank, not because there was any foreign body in it but just cos it was full of petrol and it was such a nice day and I have to work for the next two.
I should have set the trip metre, I have no idea how many miles I did but it awesome, hills, streets, motorways and coast...........damn that was fun, limped home on the reserve tank and dropped another $24.35c into it just in case I get to empty another this week. :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Christmas Day here Men, (and Ladies) so I stayed off the bike today, but had a great day, ate too much, drank too much, and now I'm sitting here in pain, but what the heck, it's better than starving!

Tomorrow I'm riding into the city to collect some parts for the Triumph, (new exhaust gaskets in anticipation of my new Jardine "Big Boss" exhaust, my Christmas present to myself, arriving next week from the US of A) then when I get home I'll be tearing the engine out of the F2 and strip it down, to remove the F2 pistons, and replace them with K6 pistons to mate up with the K6 cylinder block and head. I suspected that the with the F2 cam, the valves may have been "kissing" the pistons, so I better sort that out.

Have a great day everyone, and Merry Christmas! Cheers, Terry. ;D
