After reading a post on here about someone's gas cap being covered in kreme or what ever... that kinda sparked something in my mind.  Go look at my gas cap... of course the vent is completely covered up!  Cleaned that up... took it out for a 20 mile ride.  Still have slow jet problems... some hesitating in low speeds... but ran good up to speed.  Got a buddy going to help get the tank cleaned up and get the carbs straight.  At least now, i feel confident the bike can actually be driven to him.   ;D

Replaced the push cable then...
Rode it about 25 miles.

Which..... was just far enough to run battery down so the bike died right as I rolled back into the garage...

I'm disappointed but not surprised that it's not charging.
That's why I already bought the kit to replace the alternator pigtail connectors.  ;)

Needs a bit of carb tweaking and I'm still not real happy with the clutch. (I had to unstick it after the engine sat for years.)
Otherwise it ran pretty good!   :D

Changed the fork oil. I was surprised how easy it was. The old junk was at least from the 80's or older, nasty grey and smelled like gear lube.

Put the battery on a 2amp charger. I was happy to see the charger turn off after 10 min. Must mean my bikes charging system is doing fine.

Put 60 miles on her over the weekend,  seafoam and filled her up too.

Rode through a storm, got soaked.

My kids call me Spaceball one, must be the helmet.

Cleaned and polished both rims on the 550 (I'll save the spokes for another day). I was surprised how well they cleaned up. I don't think the previous owner ever washed the bike.
As an added bonus, I realized there are a pair of fresh Dunlops on that $400 bike!  ;D

Rode around the neighborhood, performed well, as long as I didn't get on it.

Seems it wants to sputter at about 4000 rpm,
can anyone tell me why?

Thanks

I rode mine to work today, stopped and picked up a new tach seal and fixed my leak also! That little old O-ring was a little stuck on mine. Probably original to the bike, lasted 38 years before giving it up, HONDA quality  ??? ::) :P

Changed my oil, replaced spark plugs, tossed some Seafoam in my tank, eyeballed my timing and points, rode around my subdivision a few times and more or less just basked in her glory.

Pulled two right carb boots and soaked them in xylol.  Also repositioned shocks, there was this odd bazmek by the wheel to make them shorter.

There is an advantage having the carb assembly divided in half :)

rode to work on the 550F in the misting rain.  Slid to a stop on one particularly slick street at a downhill intersection.  Been a while since I felt the back wheel start around.  Bike does handle well tho.
