Seafoam Engine Treatment and Deep Creep are the same
« on: November 09, 2009, 07:53:48 AM »
I know a lot of you guys are Seafoam fans.  I have never tried it but am about it.  My carbs are clean so I am more interested in decarbonizing.  Adding it to the gas doesnt look to be the best way to do that, its more of a cab cleaner at that point.  In one thread someone said use the Seafoam Deep Creep that comes in a spray can to spray into the carbs while running and he was told that Deep Creep is something different, a penetrating oil that should not be used this way.  Well I just compared the MSDS sheets for both products and they are exactly the same thing.  Thought some of you would like to know.

Yes they are the same. To decarbon, what you can do is remove the air box and start the bike. Spray like crazy into the carbs and while it is burbling, kill the engine for a bit. After a few minutes, start it up and if there is a lot of carbon, you will get a pretty good smoke screen for a bit!

Kinda thread jackin here but, has anyone ever run that Z Max stuff in old bikes? Been curious about it for awhile now, but didn't want to do it without checking here first.

One of the best is is the old school water cure. You simply get the engine hot and spray water into the carb throats st about 3K. I spray it into the sych ports on the side of the carbs. Some will talk about hyrolock but that takes an awful lot of water. The water turns into steam and blasts away the carbon. Cheap effective,

That couldn't work better than Seafoam could it?  I sprayed it both through the carb inlets and the vacuum ports but with the vacuum ports, the air leaks made it too hard to keep the engine running, especially with the Seafoam choking the engine.

What if you connect a vacuum tube to the vacuum port, dip the other end of the tube into a container of SeaFoam or Deep Creep or even water, then pinch the tube to regulate flow.  Seems to me there is plenty of suction to draw the fluid up and the pinch control will let you back off the flow if the engine is stumbling.

Haven't tried this yet, but curious if it might work.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

The trick with Seafoam or water or anything is to get the engine revving. If you are doing one cylinder the other three should keep firing. You also need to regulate whatever you use. That is why I use the spray bottle, quick shots in the ports and give the the cylinder to recover.

I watched a top BMW wrench from Germany do this and I was amazed at how much water he was putting in. He explained that each shot of water steam blasts off a layer and you need to blow off each layer. Nothing will magically blow it all off at once. Carbon is really tough.

One last point is to do this before you are going to change the oil no matter what you use. I am convince tah the Seafoam smoke is simply smoke. It does not mean carbon is being blown out.

That last point would be wrong. I have done it to 2 bikes at the same time. One blew out black smoke and one did not. I have also done it to a car. It is not the seafoam. :)
