pretty much wirebruch to get rid of the loose stuff, then two coats of the BBQ paint that I had left in the basement from painting the BBQ three years ago.

Probably we are talking about the same paint, but motorcycle shops have blach HT paint in a can for the off-road bikes exhaust.

Sorry I meant "black" not "blach". I could have simply edited the original post, but I rather write a new one and

...the 750 had spigots from 69-76, then collars and "shims" after that...what year is u'r bike?  Its sounds like you have the collars.  Don't impact the collars on, just a good snug tightening will do it.  If you indeed have a 77 or 78, then the bolts are actually studs with thread on both ends.  The can be removed and the older style spigots can be used.

...that will work too...good idea to use some type of "anti-seize" when inserting the studs...if you ever want to remove them that is... ::)

"Lumbee"

The bike was identified as a 1976 F1 Frame, but with a 1976 K6 engine by DSS..

I woud not know whether any other parts of the bike are NON STANDARD or AFTER MARKET, but would strongly suspect that the PO's have used anything "that looks close- we'll use that" when repairing or whatever. So it's fun when visiting my local wrecker trying to identify the bad or broken part I need to replace etc..he loves my money, but hates searching through his mess trying to match bits up..

...if its a 76 it was stock with the spigots, but very possible they were changed over to collars at some point...
