Topic: Center stand and chain interference.....

Howdy all,

   I finally got around to tuning up a recent $200 find.  It is a '75 model 750 K with 8100 miles on the clock.  It needed the typical carb cleaning and cable adjustments (Thank you Travis)...  Once I lubricated the chain and rolled it out of the shop for a test ride, I noticed that the "foot" of the center stand was rubbing on the drive chain, and hard!   Thanks to a bit of "encouragement" with a rosebud, it was massaged into a new location.  Now that the stand goes up all the way, the other side of the stand interferes with the rear brake acuator rod.  My other 750 came to me without a c-stand, so I have no examples of how it should look.  I intended to keep the stand on this one, but need to move it inboard over 1" on the right side to eliminate the aformentioned interference with the brake rod.  I see no alternative but to "heat-n-beat" the other side into a more favorable location.   Has anyone else encountered interference like this, or am I the "lucky one"?

Does the bike have a factory exaust? If not are the factory exaust mounts still there? Let me know and I might be able to solve your problem

i bet it has an aftermarket 4 into 1 exhaust on it. you'll need to make a small bracket out of metal to keep the stand off the chain.

That's what I'm thinking to, mine has a 4 into 1 but the factory mounts are still there and they keep the center stand from hitting the chain. I plan on re doing mine so the stand will go up just a bit higher.

Even with a 4-2 after market exhaust system there will be chain rub.
Stock bike  4-4 system had a piece of rubber on one pipe to catch center stand.

Without it........ as others have already stated......... you need to build a stop for the stand.
It's just small bit of steel bolted on and stepped out with a couple of bends. Add piece of rubber if you like and bobs your uncle

   The bike HAD stock head pies with a jardine style slip-on 2-1 collector on each side.   I gave those head pipes to Travis, as he needed the ground clearance for his low-slung chop.  The "bike in question" now has a  4-1 header.  Yesterday, I built a short 3" diameter stainless glasspack for it.   I know the c-stand rode against the exhaust that came on the bike when I found it, as the two "megaphones" were nearly beat in two from the stand.   Is that all there was to keep it from rubbing the brake acuator?  I want this bike for more "practical" riding, and will be making some sort of stop for the stand.   I appreciate the suggestions!  I was debating between "massaging" the other side and making a stop, but hesitated to build one if it was simply missing... It sounds like the moment the "stock" pipes came off, the stop left too

I made an "L" bracket to work as a stop for my center stand and used a rubber stopper on the end of it for the center stand to rest against. My bike has a 4-2 exhaust, but you could probably do the same type of thing on the right side for the 4-1 exhaust.
