Quick update, Bill called me just now. He spoke with the doctors and was told that Sam has several broken ribs, one of which punctured a lung. He also has a fractured invertebrate. There also is signs of a subdural hematoma. They are working to get the bleeding under control. The prognosis is good for a full recovery but he will need to remain hospitalized for at least a week before he can be mobile. Bills cell battery is low so he is being selective on it's use. I'll continue to update as he provides me with more info or until he is able to post directly. Please continue to pray for Sam.

Mark, I don't have any idea of the hospital. Call or text Bill for details.

Thanks for the update Mike; subdural hematoma can be bad stuff. Does anyone have any idea what happened? Did he get off at the big end?

Amoung others, I'm at a hotel near the VMP track this morning. I'm going to see Bill at the track today. Bill has recommended to me not to visit the hospital as Sam will be out for the next couple of days. I've been told that the Hondamatic is intact and rideable. I don't have a clue on what happened. I'll be trying to get more information about what happened while I'm there. I've done a major thrash to get my Hondamatic together so that I could race with Sam and Bill this weekend.  I don't think that I'm racing this weekend. There are far more important things in life. I'm wondering about insurances and healing times. I'll share more as I can.

Sam's on track. He had a good night. Vitals are good. He's responding as they hope/expected.Fighting if they cut back meds etc. Good sign. Got in touch with his son Jonathan. Talked with hospitals staff. Up to him and us. Thoughts and prayers please, Bill
Will continue to update throughout the day. You can't call or visit hospital. Only us right now.
We're trying to get stuff organized now. Sam and us may need your help....y'all on stand by! After not racing since April, he still cut a .010 light, good 60ft,good 330, 5.3 me 5.2' then he dropped back, he ran 9.1 in 1/8, usually @ 7.9/8.1. So he was fighting something, got it down to 48 mph before he hit the track. Thanks, Bill. ..... Larry(Larz) big shout out, you'be been such a huge help and friend, you rock bro, Bill

To Mr Weeks and all the Team Green members there at the the track:
Thanks for keeping us updated. I know Sam can feel all the support and concern of you and all his friends from around the world. I hope all of you, too feel our support as you all are standing by at his side.

Please consider continuing the race effort with him in mind. I think Sam would be dismayed at the thought of being in any way the cause of his friends and racing family not continuing with the event. I would be appealing to you in person if I were in attendance, and would race on his behalf.

Heed the fact that you all have our full support and understand that each one of you has my and our full respect for your individual decisions. Prayers and positive thoughts and energy to you all.

Sam is in an induced coma secondary to brain swelling from hitting his head against the ground. His helmet broke in several spots. He suffered 2 broken ribs and a punctured lung. Some damage to a lumbar vertebrae BUT no nerve damage.
At least a week in the hospital....we'll see about that. Let's all pray for him as he is our brother and friend.
No truer words Mr Rieck.
Never met Sam, although electronic communication was enough to indicate Sam's strength of character.
It's never mattered to Sam how big or how small it is.
He was always there and not too many like him.

When I was in England 18 months ago my wife and I had the chance to down a few pints with Sam at the Black Swan, whilst listening to the worst Elvis impersonator I have ever seen and unfortunately heard, then stagger back to his place along icy roads (how none of us landed on our arse I'll never know).  Even though I only knew him through the forum he still let us into his home and treated us like family.  I can only hope he has a speedy recovery, I would like to think we could have a repeat effort in the next couple of years.  ;D
