No, those '82 carbs won't fit your '80 as they are CV carbs with different spacing from the engine. They were only the same on the '79 and '80 models, PD carbs. We, along with mlinder, have contemplated putting on a set of the GS550s to see. It's supposed to be the same spacing and they are much easier to work on, rejet and get parts for. We haven't done it yet. These are still working and I try to not fix stuff that ain't broke.

If you try them, please let the rest of the CB650 crowd know. The carb kit pricing and lack of adjustability of the stock ones are worth trying the carbs you have, just to see.
Like cb650 said, you would need to come up with offset isolators for the '82s and that is hit or miss unless you have a bunch of different ones laying around to play with.
That year was the inbetween bike when they were switching stuff over and it has some last year and some next year stuff on it. I know it sucks. We have 2 of them.
The coils, switches and R/R should be the same for '79-82 and also comparable to some other sizes of bikes of those years. Personally, I would go with an aftermarket R/R from Oregon Motorcycle Parts. Tony Weeks has great products and guarantees them for
life. The original R/R needs really high revs just to
start to charge your battery. Tony's starts at just above idle. These 650s were on the bitter edge of enough charge to begin with, even new. If you need one anyway, I'd go that way and do it right. It's plug and play and he will talk you through it if you need it. The charging systems are the biggest single gripe of these models. Coils can be had at a decent price on feebay as can the switches but I'm sure there are some on here who could hook you up too and are very knowledgeable on this particular model.
good luck!!
