1976 CB360T - Barn Score
« on: November 27, 2009, 06:18:43 PM »
Ran into some luck recently.  I scored a 1976 CB360T from a lady who had it in her barn since '98.  It's a leftover from a divorce (dont worry... he had a Harley and didn't give a %*#? about the honda).  She had gotten it from an older gentleman that used it to ride to and from the different pastures on his farm.  That was around '95.  They rode it a few times and then parked it where it sat until today.

The bike is 100% Complete all the way down to the tool kit and a valid title.  Extremely Dirty and acting as Condo's for entire generations of creepy spiders  :-[.  Under the dirt, everything appears to be in farely good shape.

Best part about the whole deal was the price....... FREE  ;D

I've no plan to keep this one.  Just gonna' strip it down, clean it, and get it running.  Not sure if there's much of a market for these as Restorations go, but I think I'll just leave everything original and just do some cleaning.  Need to fund some of the other bike projects.

Enough for talking, here's some pics (sorry,  I forgot to snap a picture before starting to tear into it).

I was a little bummed when I got the pipe's off.  Under the dirt and gunk, they appeared to shine up real good.  No dents or dings.
Unfortunately, there are a couple rust holes   :'(.  Not sure that is something that can be repaired  :-\.

Oh well...

Very nice!  I've always been fond of the 360T's for some strange reason.
I really would like to find an all-original '77 some day.

What a sweet find !!!!! You should be stoked man , those small rust holes are peanuts , you got it for FREE! I would do some backflips now .  Pay a hundred bucks for some ebay pipes.  I would be proud to own that ! How much you want? :)

Take those pipes to a good welder, and they can be fixed no problem.

Thanks.  That's encouraging about the pipes.  Time to get the carbs removed and cleaned today.  Hopefully they're not too bad, but I have a feeling that I'll have to pop them into the ultrasonic cleaner at work next week.

It's getting cold in the garage as well.   I gotta get some insulation up at some point.

This should be used as an example of why you should store a bike properly.....

I've read a bit about a Technical Bulletin concerning the Cam Chain Tensioner.  I don't see the mark that was punched next to the Serial Number that indicated the update has been done.  I need to check the Honda Twins site to see what SN range this applied to.

I'm a bit up in the air on what to do about the frame.  As stated before, I don't intend to keep this bike.  The original plan was to simply clean it up and put it back together in ride-able condition but I hate having it stripped down and not painting it.

Maybe I'll just touch up the rust spots to stall any more deterioration.

I should have taken a side profile shot....  there were actually Stalactites of solidified varnish hanging off of the jets.  We'll see how well they clean up.

By 76 honda had the better bs for the tensioner installed.    Looks almost as good as mine did when I started on it.   My pipes are dam near perfect. In a box now.

Did a bit of reading on Penetrol.  As I understand it, this stuff can be used as a paint additive, or by itself.

If used by itself, can it be applied over top of the Warning Stickers, etc, on the frame?  Or must you tape off the stickers when applying the Penetrol?

I used it right over the stickers. The frame paint seemed to take on a whole new look.
