CB550 with clubman's how much shorter than stock on cables?
« on: December 01, 2009, 09:59:26 AM »
Hey guys...

Yes, I did a search and read all the replies, and know of a few places now that I can go to to get a set of shortened cables.

My question is.....does anyone remember how much shorter than stock the cables need to be on a CB550 with clubman's?

I want to do it right.

I truly appreciate any help you guys can offer.

~Joe

The best advice I have heard is to set up the bike to your personal ergonomic needs, decide on a routing for the cables, and then using some thick string, etc, measure what you need.  There are plenty of places to buy incremtal lengths of cables as well as a plethora of vendors that maks custom lengths.  The more important part is to get everything set first, then measure twice, buy once.  I know the gurus will be around soon with all of the vendor links.

I've got clubmans on my 550, as well as the stock cables.  I replaced my clutch with a stock replacement as mine was stretched beyond belief.  It feels fine after I adjusted the slack.  Throttle cables are a little tight, but routing was different.

The biggest difference is the main loop at the front.  The way I set it up the metal necks that come's out of the switch pod point to about the 10 o'clock postion.  So the cables loop out and back from there, going to the right side of the headlight bucket, and then to the left side of the neck of the frame.  If I were a smart man, I'd have measured the rise of the stock bars from the triple, then measure the drop of the clubmans from this.  Subtract the total from the stock cable's length and there you go.

I'd give yourself some extra slack for wriggle room with the routing.

EDIT - Now that I think about it, that would probably leave you short.  Your way is better.

Thanks.

What will more than likely happen, is I will see what I can do with what I have, and if it won't work, then I will route them they way I want with one end un-attached, mark them, then remove and write the measurements down.

Seems to be the only way to do it.

Just have to decide now if I want drag bars that are turned down or Clubman's.
