CB750 1976 First Builder!
« on: December 07, 2009, 01:20:09 PM »
Well, I am bitting the bullet. I have been lurking around this board for a few months, and got bit by the bug!

This was a score, my work donates all of it's used computers to the employees, and I came across a guy on CL that had a '76 CB750 and an '83 CB750 Nighthawk (which is for a future project), and was asking $200 (no titles). So I called him and said "hows about a laptop" and he bit.

My hope is to get it rebuilt by March '10, and at this point I have the bike stripped, engine tore down to nothing, and a ton of new (and not new) ebay parts.

Here's some pics, it's proof that tweakers love to take things apart.
Highlights:
Valve cover hole plugged with a budweiser can and jbweld.
Carbs loose and full of water when I picked it up.
No sparkplugs, #1 and #3 full of water.
Every screw stripped on all of the covers.
Gas tank had leaves in it.
Clutch lever return spring attached to centerstand connector. (Center stand found on Nighthawk as a luggage rack)
I sh!t you not, a wine cork in the drain pan plug.
Speedo/tac for the 76 attached to the 83 with zipties.

So, where it sits today:
  • Wiseco 836cc piston kit, with the appropriate overbore
  • New wiring harness
  • RF ID ignition (still don't know how that's going to work, but should be fun to figure out
  • Frame stripped, paint this weekend
  • Motor stripped, also paint this weekend
  • Removing starter alltogether, and going to a straight kicker
  • LiPro batteries hidden under one of Benji's seats, when I get enough cash for that
  • New Benji tank, again, waiting for cash
  • Clubman bars, but it might be too low for me. We will see.
  • All new (ebay) tins
