the dyna s needs 12v on it to work. the stock points have blue and yellow wires that have bullet connectors on them. the dyna s has smaller connectors, but a gentle squeeze on the bikes connectors will sort that out. the dyna comes with a dodgylock splice connector, which works for a while, until it corrodes. best to get the 12v from the brake switch with a soldered splice. it will be switched and is conveniently located. the red wire on the dyna draws next to nothing, (powers the transistors) ,its the blue and yellow wires doing the work(switcing the coils)
heatshrink with glue inside is available from electronics shops and works well. i use normal heatshrink over the twisted and soldered joint, then a touch of silicone around it, and then carefully side the heatshrink over it. shrink and the silicone will seal it all. bombproof.
i have posted here about splice connectors here before- they have their place, but it isnt on a motorcycle. crimp connections serve well (using the right tools), but unless you can do it as well or better than the factory, go for solder and heatshrink. tape will last approx 3 weeks.
