theyre ruining the game, just like about every other professional sport has been, making everything too sterile, too normal?

I haven't watched it since I figured out the Blues weren't trying to win a championship (A while ago).

These days it's just a barfight on skates to me.  :)

The old rules were clutch a grab, slowing down talented players with few plays.  Today's game is faster and has far more flow to it.  I like to see goals scored and talented, skilled, creative plays made.
Todays games have far more scoring.  Soccer is so boring because it usually takes and hour to see one goal scored...maybe.  Pre-lockout hockey was similar.  A zero-zero game has no excitement.   Might as well watch baseball (yawn).

The Blues are a bit short on talent these days, and must resort to bully tactics, intimidation, and brute force instead of talent and finesse.  If you can't score or can't defend, the only role left is to fight.

I can live with the occasional fight, consenting players and all that.  It's all the dirty, intent to injure hits that should really be reduced by the refs.  If you like that stuff, then just watch American football.
