I have a serious problem...
« on: January 05, 2010, 01:26:45 PM »
I can't stop thinking about my bike.  I'm supposed to be working, but instead I'm posting in a motorcycle forum.  I search the internet for parts.  I'm always thinking of ways to make it better.  I stopped at a store last night after midnight looking for a picture frame for a bike picture.   ::)  Then I tinkered with the engine in my basement until about 3:00 am last night.  I've been thinking about the head porting process.  I've been thinking about polishing internal engine components.  I've also been thinking about how I could lighten and balance the crankshaft by hand.  I've been thinking about the best way to lighten the transmission DYI-style.  Now I'm wondering about which aluminum rims I should get for it.  I can't stop thinking about it...

Woe is me.

Soichiro,
I feel your pain.
Today in math class, instead of actually listening to the whole syllabus whatever, I drew a cl350 with low bars and a #$%*in paint job.  I downloaded the shop manual and marveled for a good, long while at the coolness of the engine diagram.
I'm routing cables in my head and I think occasionally my heart fibrillates in the exact same cadence as a parallel twin at 1.5k idle.
I had been playing with the idea of quitting my job so I can focus on school.  Now I grudgingly accept that I need to keep working so I can buy bike parts.
Not to mention that I bought this bike with money that was meant to feed me and help keep me alive during the term after tuition and expenses have been paid.

I try to go to sleep and I keep dreaming about this bike, and all the many incarnations and visages it takes on, being a work in progress.

I can't give it a solid name because it's more of a concept, feeling and idea than a thing.

The first step is, apparently, admitting you have a problem.  The next step is buying parts fixing it... whatever..

Nothing better than SOHC4 porn.

I hear you kit.  I love looking at the CB350F cut away engine diagram indicating oil flow.  The design of these engines is something to behold.

I'm also thinking about future plans... like making my own charging system (like Cycle X's) to eliminate the starter motor and battery.  Thinking about fabricating a CR-style alloy gas tank with the petcock in the rear like the CR tanks.  Thinking about an alloy oil tank like the CRs.  Oh, and thinking about making an aluminum frame.

But those are for Phase III.  I'm just only starting Phase II.

I hear you, soichiro & Kit, I hear you all Loud And Clear! ;) You see, I have that problem with the Super Hawk Cafe/ Whatever, I want to build. :-\ Example: I want to build it as an individual Look, BUT with SOME details that still say Super Hawk. Now, the stock gas tank tail light and fenders SHOULD say that. Then the the lack of side covers and stock air cleaners, the nonstock exhaust, different appearance of the engine, different headlight and non stock air cleaners, should say "Not Super Hawk features". Can't decide on the exact paint scheme or colors. Got an idea for the colors & scheme, but not sure. Thought about a front disc brake, but I think THAT would be going too far!  ::)

Same problem here. Thinking and planning what I want to do with the bikes. I  think I  have it worse though. I'm the same way about the FZR, Goldwing, and the CD175 that  I haven't even picked up yet. Thankfully I don't dream about the bikes much, just  daydream about them.

My dear wife and I were recently having one of the standard, low level, weve been together for a decade and sometimes we annoy each other fights and she said "I swear, you care more about that effin' bike than me". I had to think for a second before giving the standard, "thats crazy talk..." response. ;)

Our combined vices are too expensive.  I think that given the choice between 'keeping' me and totally restoring her CL350, maybe really working on Samson instead of calling him a parts bike for Delilah...

...I think that'd be a tough call for her (or any sane woman) so I can't leave that to chance. ;)

The 12 step programme;
Admitting that you are powerless over your "problem" ; yeh right, I may not have seen as many breasts today as I would have wished for when I first woke up, but I did "collect" some more bike bits, only "real" or "perceived " problem there was lack of breasts and lack of cash stopping me getting more parts.
Believing that a "power greater than oneself can restore you to sanity" again, yeh right, It was that "power" that made me what I am, and I like loving breasts and collecting bike bits ; thanks God , and incidently, great job with breast making.
Made a decision to turn our lives and will over to god as we understand him; again yeh right, god made breasts and he made me and he wanted me to love breasts and I do. (thanks again god) God made man, man made bike parts I love bike parts, thanks to the man.
Step four; made a moral inventory of ourselves; Hmmm, ok,   got bike bits, got some more bike bits, got some pictures of breasts, got some food, got some money, got tools, got more piccies of breasts off internet, got some videos offa internet of breasts....not very moral, but damn good inventory.
step five;admitted to god or another human being the exact nature of our wrongs....kept piccies of breasts to myself, was wrong , sorry.
I would share them but they are a tad stuck and hard to separate the pages without tearing.
Other wrong, in 1982 I told a girl she was pretty to get sexual gratification offa her, I lied she was pig ugly . It was a "wrong" as she did not pay me enough.
Other "wrong" I did obtain incorrect part for cb750k2 once and had to get refund.
step six; we are entirely ready to have god remove all these "defects of character"   what? no. F*** right off.
Step seven ; humbly ask him to remove all of our shortcummings. Ok, can do, " dear god, please will you make me cum a lot further in future please?" amen and thanks.
step eight; make a list of all persons harmed and make amends to them, easy; pig girl I am sorry for saying you were pretty.
step nine make direct amends except when it would injure them.....#$%* sorry again pig girl but you are actually ugly, If I let you believe you are pretty, you may injure  yourself indirectly as a consequence of my lies..
step nine; continue to take inventory ( I am not making this up it actually says this) ok I promise to count and covert my bike pics regularly and count up my breast parts. and when we are wrong promptly admitted it. Damn I got the last bit the wrong way round.

Ha!  :D

But seriously...

12 years. I have been waiting 12 years to finish my bike.

Every year my plan for it changes. First a "chopper" then "bobber" then "digger" then "tracker" then "bracket racer" then "full out nasty RC-esque drag" then "endurance" then "salt flat" then "turboed" then "supercharged"... the lists go on and on.... As do the serious amount of parts I might never use.

One thing is for sure though..... I'm finally down to 3 more projects in line ahead of it.

I had 15.

In all seriousness too, My cb7450 k2 concourse restoration has been going on for six years and I was actually afraid to admit to it on this forum what with most folk being so efficient at finishing their project cb's.  So I am actually glad and heartwarmed by your project taking twice as long ( so far) as mine because I can now (a.) feel good about my self again and gain restorational superiority at your expense, and (b.) tell my misses that "some" folks projects take twice as long (and maybe get breasts more often) My project is purely funds, plain and simple, when I have money to spend , the bike moves along the road to completion a tad, when I don't have any queens silver to spend,  I have to overt my gaze from the bike out of a sense of guilt and inadequacy.
Do you know just how hard it is to get girls to go on the game for you here in Wales in the UK? This was my latest "plan" to raise bike revenue..I started off by just asking likely looking Welsh girls if they would like to earn a little extra cash by being in a "stable" I was trying to start. Welsh girls (apparently) are just plain psychotic and lash out violently at the  mere mention of "would you like to be" My misses said "are you sure it wasn't the "my prostitute" part?" But I am quite sure I didn't get that far every time.
Anyways, I reckon they have been "talking amongst themselves" now , so that plans out of the window.
Every damn room in our house is full of parts, some good, some relevent, and some perfect, but an awfull lot are just sort of like ornaments, yes they may well come in handy one day, but that day hasn't happened in the last six years so I got a feeling it may never, and my plan is to get rid of all parts not going on my project, including all the ones for other projects that I was going to start in the future when i had done this one...daydreams.....daydreams have filled my house up with strange things.
