armchair engineering?  i don't really think so there laminar.  i've been a part of multiple SAE teams, and i've helped design a couple of drag frames for a friend of mine.  my first SAE team i was on, i mentioned the word schedule, and damn near got kicked off!!  had to learn really quick, that for parts that matter, you rely on DOM tube.  it's stronger because it's cold rolled and drawn.  if the schedule 40 works, awesome!  but if it was my build, i'd go with DOM.

BUT, corn's builds are quite well done, so if he thinks it's strong enough, then it'll work!

exhaust looks good!  what's that muffler from??  and i like the swingarm bracing.  do you think it's necessary?  or is it more for looks??

I don't know what it is but I am pretty sure it won't matter. Max load at the upper shock mount is about 650 lbs, so with 4.5 inches of fillet weld on the shock mount I don't see it being an issue of strength.

LOL awesome.

If you need any more of those I have about 4 of them on my s4 Avant that I can donate.  I just need a piece of stainless exhaust pipe welded in their place.   ;D

Dude... it's looking sick. I think it needs a little half fairing up front to tie the lines together. Tell you what: you come help me finish my english wheel, and I'll help you hammer one out.  ;)

your muffler idea is close to what I want to do with mine.
but on mine I want the exhaust tip to come out up front on the clutch hand side.
everything I say is pure speculation and
I have no idea what I'm talking about  ._.

what is there about the old boxer that makes them a great cafe?

Your CX looks like it's coming along great!  are you going to use a fairing?

I am seriously considering it. I am trying to get this done quickly for my sister so she can have something to ride for the summer. So I probably won't put a fairing on it now for time sake. I also am going to just paint it flat black. Then she can ride it around for the season and give it back to me next year. Then I can paint it the color she wants and will have time to do a fairing.

i just need to fabricate the cradle to hold the anvils, and its quick release mechanism. it's 98% finished, i just never have time to do that one last thing.

Hey Paul I was wondering if you had a source for keihin main jets. I can't find the sizes I need for the cx. I am looking for 85 or 90 secondary jets and 120 or 125 mains they are standard 8mm screw type. Just thought I would ask since you mess around with alot of the older bikes.

the small round screw in type? those are easy enough to acquire. it's the o-ringed press in jets that are harder to find locally. i usually get them from honda st johns (beaverton will likely have them too) or ron's performance in mollalla. that's a little far from me, but a friend of mine is a partner in the place and i do all of my dyno stuff there.

beaverton honda didn't have anything close to those sizes. The guy behind the counter gave me a weird look like what do you need those sizes for... ha anyways the quest continues.

beaverton honda is 99.99% worthless when it comes to having anything in stock OR knowing what you're talking about, referring to anything more than 10 years old. They had a fella working there who was a member here and had a CB550, but he moved to tennessee maybe a year or two ago now. I miss him. :(
