Anyone have a FFL? Federal Firearms License
« on: January 19, 2010, 05:01:29 AM »
As Im planning a small business in the distant future, Ive sat down many times and attempted to research guidelines for a federal firearms license. Of course the best info Ive found was at the ATF website but to me, the information seems incomplete and noninclusive. To type a general search via net will lead you to a plethora of sites than offer to sell you their 'ffl kit', but those turn out to be limited.

Am I missing something here? I understand that this licensing information shouldnt be for everyones eyes, but my mindset is if I can build a 30 year old motorcycle with a step by step book, then why cant I find a step by step by step FFL guide?

Im asking for information here now because all of you have provided me with so much in the past in my bike builds and rebuilds. I also understand that not everyone wishes to announce openly that they have licensing so feel free to email me off this site and I promise your secrecy. My email is on my profile.

Thanks - Boats  8)

I actually looked into this at one time (my wife was a "gunsmith" arms repairer in the military).  I could not find anything helpful.  I really only found a 1 page application, but there were no directions.  I know it cannot be as simple as a 1 page deal.  I gave up for a while then came across this:

NRA webste:

ATF (Form 7)website to request Packet:

A lot of red tape and govt. bull#$%* and ATF & FBI scrutiny for not a lot of $$$.

I leave that kind of dread to other folks.

It all depends on what you want to do. Do you want to be a type 1 dealer? an NFA dealer? a manufacturer? a Gunsmith? etc...? It is more than just as simple as getting an FFL. I am the Senior VP for a company that deals with all sorts of weapons class 1, class 3, we are actual NFA manufacturers and maintain 2 FFL's and SOT's.

BTW, the BATFE is not that bad as long as you do everything legitimately and legally.
