ok, so got some more work done today. remember that problematic engine mount bolt? that bugger was WELDED in! granted it was welded by corrosive action, but still, didn't think the galvanic corrosion would get that bad between the two different materials! either way, i drilled the sucker out, and i think the mount is still structurally sound, i'll just need a 1/2" bolt to make it snug...
i plasti-gaged the crank bearings and all 5 of them are spot on 0.0015". i couldn't detect any taper. also, my rods on the small end were within 0.0004" on the high side between vertical and horizontal. i think this will be fine.
yesterday i picked out the better set of shift forks and fork shaft. also picked the shift drum. i tore down and inspected the transmission components and everything looks great! all i need for the trans to be finished is to order all new roller bearings from SKF for the trans and engine cases. i found a local MSC industrial supply that can HOPEFULLY get me all of them i need for about $100. i might have to go to the stealer or bike bandit to order the output shaft bearing.
tomorrow i should be able to start getting the cases cleaned and blasted, then onto the next phases!
oh ya, i decided on some things "officially" for the build! hopefully y'all think it's as cool as i do, and if you don't, sucks to be you!
i'm going to go with the 4th over piston kit and bore from Z1, bronze valve guides with new Vesrah valves and a valve job. home porting with stock springs and probably the stock cam, unless i can find one that's very streetable with a stock displacement motor? any advice?? HD studs with a Cyclex full gasket and seal kit. i'll use my PD carbs with one of Tintop's new hybrid stack/filter setups. HD cam chain w/ M3 tensioner. Dyna mini 3-ohm coils w/ red plug wires. Hondaman ignition box. lockhart oil cooler w/ spin on oil filter adapter. all stainless hex head bolts (hopefully i can find some button head bolts to keep things sleek!). carpy 4-1 that will be ceramic coated. HOPEFULLY a dry clutch kit from Vox if he finishes, he's SO close!!!
for suspension i'll go with a Hondaman rear swingarm rebuild, mild frame reinforcing, tapered steering head bearings and new wheel bearings. YSS/Hagon/Ikon rear shocks (leaning towards Y.S.S. E-302's). inside the gl1000 front end, racetech gold valve emulators and straight springs. buchanan's for 18" front and rear shouldered alloy wheels and SS spokes. i have NO clue about tires right now, suggestions?? i'll probably run a set of euro/superbike bars and certainly rearsets. voxonda motor mounts and hednut removable frame section kit.
i'll run a parts'n'more wiring harness that is stripped down to what i need. oregon motorcycles reg/rect, DDM HID front light, e-start delete, x-cell 12 oz./ lithium battery from Kayaker on here. LED backlit gauges w/ custom faces from Justin on here. i have a set of ribbed side covers from frankenstuff, so i have a good painting idea for those! i'm going to paint the frame a semi-gloss white and go with red tins and accents. i'll have a custom aluminum cowl built with some really trick touches!
ok, sorry for the length, but lemme know what you think!!
