I like your analogy kit! Easy to understand. But, isn't the average breakfast buyer kinda getting hit twice? Either way? If the Gov' is giving tax $$ to cover the "obligated breakfast" then the tax paying breakfast buyer is paying either a higher price or higher taxes. Probably both with our gov! I don't think anyone should be turned away that has a medical condition, but I'm not totally sold on the "option". Wish I had the answer? I also would like to know, if the dems in congress(I consider myself neither, but have voted dem in the past) feel this is such a great idea, why weren't they the first ones to sign up for it? Maybe if they would have said " This is the best we can do, we're so sure of it that we're taking it to." and not get a buttload of $$ for "projects" in THIER own states for their votes.

And back to the original question, was the speech really any better then the last 10 we've seen or heard?20?50?! Lots of words & promises. Yes, it was better in the sense that Obama doesn't sound like a complete buffoon like Bush did. But, do we feel any different then we did before the State speech? I don't. It was like watching a seminar on failed businessmen on public access.

No the speech was s##t.  This time I think Americans have seen past the smoke and mirrors.  I am resting my case again on government.  You must watch this video about the so called health care bill they tried to pass.  Punish 85% of Americans so 15% can have health insurance.  I am only 30 years old, I will be damned if I will tell my daugther, Father, Mother, or anyone else I know, "sorry the government plan does not pay for that service"

Kiss my ass Barack and the Democrats asses that you rode in on!  Save your speaches for some who gives a damn.  Why don't you put yourself on the Government Plan if it is that great.

The State of the Union speech was the biggest waste of tax payer dollars, and this 3 dollar President needs to go.

Yeah, cause the private insurance plan that I pay _way_ too much for covers everything I need it to...   ::) ::)

As a follow up to my last comment, I would like to say I think the healthcare bill is a bunch of crap as it stands, the only good part is getting rid of pre-existing conditions. Also, I did vote for Obama, but I will have a hard time doing so again. While the right wingers like to go on about how uber liberal he is, he really, really isn't. I'd barely call him center-left.

Or you could look at it another way.  K-12 at a public school as a right and if you feel that private school is better, that would be your privilage (since you would pay this out of your pocket for a better education)
Actually, compulsory Education was actually one way to enact Child labor protection. There were real Truant officers, who would take you off the street and put you back in School.

Back in the '80's they used to patrol the arcades in Times Square during school hours.  Ask me how I know ;).

Ok, first off, I did not vote for the current or past Presidents....but
WHY is the military exempt from reductions?
WHY do we not pay for our government services as we consume them?

I believe the answer is banks/investment houses need to make their profits.

I never said the system did not need reform, just not what the Dems had proposed.  Like the senator said in the video, they proposed the plan as "this is it or nothing else".

As far as the cost for my plan out of pocket, I work for a good company, and they pay 75% of the plan cost and when I have worked there for 15-20 years, they pay 90% of the plan cost.  Again a privilage if you shop around when looking for employment or negotiate good benefits.  Right now I pay 60.00 or so a  week for family coverage, and in 15-20 years I will be around 25.00 to 30.00 for family coverage on Blue Cross Blue Shield.

My plan covers more than most I have used in the past. Certainly more the Dem proposed plan.

This will work well until the costs of your plan are greater than your worth to the company - which is kind of the reason most minimum wage workers and their families aren't offered insurance currently.

If I were you I wouldn't count on your employer to offer you that coverage in 15 - 20 years (unless you're a government employee).

+1, you should be promoted to moderator on this topic.  I'm sure it will get locked soon enough. You can't say s##t.

BO almost sounded republican for the speech except for the taxation lies, lack of national defense, and socialist overtones.

Come on November! Republicans and educated Democrats please vote early, vote often, and vote republican.

Agreed.  I also am not counting on Social Security to exist when I am ready to retire.  Kind of sucks for me since I will pay into it and recieve no benefit.  But at least I am aware of this and I am preparing now.  If anything is there for me when I retire, it will be like a bonus.  This is why I have 2 401K plans

I have a long time before I retire, so I am not as worried about my 401k plans if that is what you are suggesting.  I have a diversified portfolio in both of them.

Back to the State of the Union
All talk, all lies, the dems and president are still trying to move us in the wrong directions.  Economies and businesses have ups and downs.  We have been near the lowest of low, and any progress will look like what they are doing is working.  It is basic knowledge than when things hit rock bottom in any aspect of life, a steep up turn follows.  It is not going to be becase what they are working on, it is just human nature.  Everyone will get tired of holding back on spending, eating noodle soup, and buying cheap cars.  They will just stop buying on credit, because they will have saved up a few dollars.  All of this is not because what the government is doing, it is just the fact of life.

Yes, let's bring back the party that was not paying attention prior to 9/11, misled the country into a war that did not need to be fought, created virtually 0% job growth in eight years, and brought about a near economic collapse that began in early 2008. ;D ;D ;D
