Dick Mann
« on: February 02, 2010, 12:57:57 am »
Thought you guys might like this. My buddy and I were driving around at work and drove by a Honda dealership in Burnaby and spotted a '65 CB160 on the lot. We turn around and get talking to the mechanics and turns out the guy who owns the dealership used to race in the 60's and 70's and knew Dick Mann. Long story short they show us into the back....

They are in the middle of the resto. This is one of four factory CR's Dick Mann raced. The engine is stamped CR 750 009 , pretty cool.
You may notice the calipers are on backwards right now, one of the mechanics was saying they used to do that sometimes, although they might flip them back. And for some strange reason modern Honda footpegs are on it right now, not sure what's up with that...They also for some reason gave us the original KONI shocks that came off the bike.

Hey bluegreen, great find.
I don't suppose you could take a few more close up pics? the oil cooler, lower fork legs and the brake and shift levers. Oh and also of the area on the motor that housed the starter motor.

If you can that would be fantastic.

If it is Cliff, another member who's parents have a shop opposite told me about the bike last year.

He also has a nice collection of bikes upstairs in his shop. Bought my 1969 and 1971 CB750's from him, plus a Datsun 510. He's been with Honda for a long time.

Count the clutch cover bolts...............!!!  Examine the head. What is the frame number? Blank cases can be stamped anything you want them to say. Great find and story if its real.  What would Bob Jamisen and Bob Hansen say about this?

Yeah, thats him.I am pretty sure its the real deal. Its been in his shop for a while now,he is genuine, not the cheating type.Frankie's father was a world class racer, there is even a national holiday for him.(czechoslovakia)
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.

Yup the bike is in Frankie's shop. It was cool, we hung out for an hour or so talking about the CR while we waited for Frankie to drop by because my buddy wanted to buy the CB160 from him. Then met hung out with Frankie and his racing mechanic from the old days. Those two had a lot of cool stories. Anyway, my friend who has just started building a CR replica took a lot more photos than me so I'll bug him for some, and we were invited to come by and check out progress, so I'll take some more.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I'll get some pics of the sand cast carbs, they were awesome
