It is a tach or speedo cable....with large knurled end, & gray.

I have several 450 parts books, with reverse numbers check. It did not show as being used in that bike series, even checked early book (single instrument) Nor did 292 appear to be  the dominant 450 number .

I checked a few other books as well, but do not have the CB/CL 72/77 books

If it is off 250 or 305 , I owe it to someone on here..

Part number is  44830-292-030... could be a revision..

I will take another look at the cable tommorow, in case its mis labeled..
That bike looks a bit newish for gray cables ... I know one end had a big knurled threaded end, but cant recall what the other end had..
 Thanks for all the help..

Both 283 & 292 are 450 numbers.
283 is the Black Bomber and 292 are first five speeds.

So does the 450 have a larger knurled fitting on engine end, than most tach nuts..?

I found this useful list in the FAQ:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=2894.0;attach=7560

And heres more than you want to know about Honda part numbers from Classic-Holland, including the fact that a 292 is indeed a CB450k1 code........mea culpa...... ::)

 Here is what I found today;

I picked another 450 book it had early models, and part # was in there..
showed as speedo cable , NOT tach..

Which I tend to believe, as

cable from metal to metal end is just under 36 inches

Large knurled ring,  and standard ring on speedo end, seems to jive with the early, seperate drive (not in hub)

Anyway , nice greycable, looks NOS, minor shelfwear , it is...
