Yeah Bryan, it was one of those jobs where one problem threw up another.
I believe that the alternator spinning it's self off while she was riding was the catalyst then I lapped too much off the shaft and inside the alternator rotor.
Didn't help that I fcuked up the cam timing 3 times. :-[
I'm gonna grab as much GSX400 stuff from the wrecker before he packs up the shop for good.
I can tell you it is such a bloody relief to have the 400 all back together, Jaffa came home from work today, saw her bike in the driveway, turned the key..hit the starter and it fired right up..no choke no hesitation....boy was she smiling big time. ;D

I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Bike is all back together Mick, sitting in the driveway for when she finishes work. ;D
Found it had a duff plug too, luckily he GSX takes same as my 650.
It is soooo tuned now since I tweeked everything while mucking with the starter and my mate set the points and timing, one push of the start button and it roars into life. :D
We might go for an evening ride about 6pm, not too far as a bike has to earn my trust before I take it long distance and pushing even that lightweight home aint something I would look forward to. :)

Well done mate....what a mission..... ;D

OK the proof is in the pudding (or the riding in our case) so we went out for a nervous round the block shakedown ride.
Jaffa was so happy with the way the bike went that she wanted to go further so we went and gassed up then did a short tour of the bay (Hawke's Bay).
Apart from the initial smoke as the old oil and gas burned off from my rebuild, the bike was faultless, Jaffa got some of her lost confidence back and we had a great ride. ;D
Check out the smile on her face as we returned home after an hour riding. :D
