revving the bejesus from your engine every now and then is actually good, it's called "Italian Tuning"

TG

Italian women should be treated the same way, or so they tell me ;)

That's if you can get past the hairy arm pits and the bad body oder !!  :o :D :D
Stay in So Cal. That comment here in NY could get you seriously injured. Hardcore Wops in these parts.  ;D

It's alright Bobby, you're from a New York Italian/American family, you're a Vietnam vet and an ex-cop, and you're a top bloke, so you've got my respect mate, even if these guys don't recognize your self deprecating humor.  ;D

Terry, i for one could see that Robby was actually criticizing the previous posts, even if in an oblique, humorous, and not exactly PC way. Recognized. That's OK, or kind off.
I dont think that Bobby's post was the main issue, these were the previous comments that were more out of place. Don't know what are your thoughts about them, but those are the posters that need to explain themselves.
cheers

#1 I am not sure I would take a motor and run it at 12,000 RPM for any period of time. Certainly a motor that may have had multiple owners and variable maintenance. I have missed shifts many time and I cringe to think how fast the motor may have gone. Considering how many times it has happened to me I gotta hand it to the motor designers.

Now lets' clear something up. I am from NY and I grew up among other Italian Americans my whole life. We use terms such as Guinea, Wop, etc among ourselves the same way Blacks use the N word. It is allowable. If an outsider uses it, or makes fun of our women, the more hard core among us would probably jump someone, and in neighborhood like Arthur Ave, Morris Park, Bensonhurst, and others you watch your ass.

There is a TV show called Jersey Shore, they are the worst of us, and we would call them Wops which would be the same as White Trash. They are Gavones which means peasants.

I have 30 cousins and none of us speak the language. We have Teachers, Doctors, Dentists, Accountants, Financial types and Musicians. No more day laborers or wiseguys.

NY has a culture and we have cultural rules, and it works for us since we all know the rules. If you forget the rules, someone will remind you.

Pasta is for the WASPs. We ate spaghetti and Macaroni(s). Cappuccino is for sissies, you gotta drink Espresso and a bit of Anisette.  The reason they call it Espresso, is becau se if you are not used to it, you better be close to a bathroom.   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Guys, its really great that we all take it with humor but there might be some people to whom it doesnt look so funny.

Bobby, I love New York, New yorkers, spent one of the best years of my life there (aboard a KZ650 of all things), so know a little bit about how multicultural it is and how it embraces you, never mind from wherever you come from. You are lucky to live in such a great place

And yet, you are all avoiding this simple question

The following comments have been posted in this thread:

-Italian women should be treated the same way, or so they tell me Wink

-That's if you can get past the hairy arm pits and the bad body oder !!  Shocked Cheesy Cheesy

If you are all OK with this type of postings, then fine, just say it clearly and don't hide behind smileys/winks. If you think that's not OK say so too. Simple.

Then if the original posters have something else to add, then even better.

Cheers

TG

PS Just a few months ago my Italian girlfriend visited with me the US and fell in love with the place and the people. Luckily she never had the chance to meet people with prejudices like the forum members who posted those two comments.

TG, I see you are from Milan, a wonderful beautiful place. NY is a wonderful international City, much safer than people expect and more polite also.

What makes Italian women so exciting also makes them tough to handle, they have a fire within them. They are also exotic and beautiful, but with attitude.

My own sweet 92 year old Mother can take offense at almost anything. She talks about being told she was well qualified for a job but they did not hire Italians. Oh yeah she was born here. This was 1928 and you would swear it happened yesterday.

I really took no offense, I gave some friendly advice. You can get into some real trouble with a wise crack like that in the wrong part of NY, Boston, Rhode Island or Toronto.

As you are aware from your time in NY that Italian Americans are far different than Italians in Italy. Those who still speak the language without formal instruction are either speaking "house Italian" or some 100 year old dialect.
While we hold onto some traditions, we are really Americans, I claimed my right under "jure sanguinis" so on paper I am also an Italian Citizen. When went there I was considered an American, and they were right.

Today things are different than my Mother's time. We have left the neighborhoods and among us we have notable politicians, Supreme Court Justices, and CEOs of Companies like IBM, Apple etc. As a people we have nothing to be ashamed of.

That rod went cos a big end nut fell off (Betcha)

Honda rods dont let go on an unmessed with normally run (up to and even past red line OCAISSIONALY) engine

Brian,
Is it possible that after a number of years that metal fatigue sets in? Those rods have been going up and down a long time. I am not sure if they are cast. Cast metal does have a granular structure and given time will develop small cracks until it becomes one big crack.

Thankfully, we are back the the topic....
My Seeley, (836, Webers, Gerex ignition, stock connecting rods, mystery cam) had a very nasty habit of popping out of gear under WFO, high rpm conditions. One day, after riding a couple of blocks, at low speeds, it suddenly developed tappet noise. One of the adjusting screws had snapped off above the rocker arm, allowing the lower piece to back out, and I found the upper piece with the nut still attached. I never attributed it to high RPM: I just figured the PO had overtightened the nut. After reading Gordon's remark about the nuts loosening up, I wonder....
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!
