buying parts
« on: February 25, 2010, 09:15:27 AM »
I am going to order some parts and would like to make sure I am getting the right ones and that I am going to the right spots to get em.

z1 enterprizes:
Throttle cables (push & pull)
Clutch cable
Speedo cable
Tach cable
Dyna-S ignition
Dyna 5 ohm coils
.... are there other electrical pieces I should replace while I am at it? Rectifier/Regulator? ect...

I need to find a good place to get the following:
- Carb rubbers for both intake and manifold sides, witht he proper clamps to hold em on.
- An air filter meant for the stock air box
- Speedo and Tach faces / decals to overlay them, preferably in Km/hr (Canadian)
- a fuse block to accept ATC blade type fuses, 3 or 4 slot preferably, with a cover

What is the number/model of the bulbs for the taillight, running lights, turnsignals and indicator lights, as I am looking to order
some from superbright leds.

I appreciate any help you can give, this is the year the bike sees the road and I want to get a leg up early.

I would recommend getting new spark plug caps and cables from Z1, while you're replacing ignition stuff.  I am not sure about replacing the rectifier.  Do a search, there's a writeup somewhere on how to test the rectifier.  The regulator can be replaced, but I doubt you'll have to.  They can be adjusted, but I don't know that they fail outright.  Oregon Motorcycle Parts makes solid state replacements, if you want to go that route.  I thought about it and decided not to, since mine's seems fine.

For the carb rubbers, try David Silver Spares.  They have the intake rubbers, which are still available from Honda btw, but they also have the airbox to carb rubbers, which I think are a reproduction.  These aren't cheap; you may want to consider whether the rubbers are too bad to revive using some of the methods in tricks and tips on this forum.
For the air filter, I bought a UNI foam filter, NU-4055.  It's the same shape as the stock item, fits the airbox.  I like it because you can clean it.  I got mine at Bikebandit, but you can find them at most online stores, and your dealer may have them.
I'm not sure about the fuse block or bulbs, try searching the forums.  Also the shop manual may have bulb numbers listed.
Tach and speedo faces, as far as I know, are only available from custom makers.  When Motorcycle Classics did their CB500 project, they used Carpy.  Try a search for that too and you'll find out where others have bought them.
Good luck!

"Lowriders by Summers" carries the ignition parts, and probably everything else as well. Cycle-x has just about everything... Try David Silver spares for the guage decals, since it's a Limey company, they should have that bizarre metric stuff. I try to stay away from companies that don't let you deal directly with the owners... Just weird I guess.

From your post it sounds like you're replacing parts whether the original ones are still good or not.  Without knowing anything at all about your bike, or even what bike you have, it's impossible for anyone to tell you what parts you need to replace.  I'd suggest determining what actually needs replacing before spending any money on new parts you may not need.

Having said that, Z1 is definitely a good place to get parts from if they have what you need.  Honda is also a good source, as well as DSS.

Pawsoff,

Carpy said he will do Km/h 400 guages if he can copy one.
