Interesting Day Today And It Was Nice!
« on: February 25, 2010, 04:15:31 PM »

Got the GTX out, cleaned it up at the carwash and headed up to Fort Smith to take care of my Dad and to pick up Joey and Karla. As I got into Fort Smith, I came up beside a guy in a pickup truck with his window down (about 37 degrees outside) and then I see that he has his Camera/Cellphone out and is going to take pictures of the car. He smiles as I go by (I took my time, so he could get his pictures). Then just as I was getting by Breeden Dodge, a young guy in a NEW Challenger, pulled out and into the lane next to me. We ended up stopping at the stoplight, next to each other. He rolled his window down (so I did too) and wanted to know if it was a '69 and commented on how good it looked and all. I told hin that it WAS a '69, thanked him and then he asked if I wanted to trade. :o I politely told him no, but I DID like the look and what I had heard about the new Challengers. Now, IF he would have been in one of those Challenger SRT8s, well, I don't know. ::) Naw, I sure do like having the ol' GTX to cruise in. ;) Then, I had to get Karla to a Doctor's appointment and while I was there (sitting out in the car waiting on her), there were at least 4 guys who commented on the car (one said he had a '69 hisself, that was a 440 6Barrel car) and one woman, who tilted her head and gave me a smile. :)

All in All, it's been a pretty good day. ;)

Forgot to add that I've considered driving into the Dodge dealership and antagonize the salesmen, thinking I was going to stop and talk about trading. ;D :P

you could always take one for a test drive. used to do it years ago. turn up in my 1959 Humber 80 and take a flasher car for a drive, go to another dealer and get an even better one, now you can turn up at a real swanky place in "your" flash car and they let us humans drive off in a really flash car, that's the one you actually go for a blat in. upgrading we called it, got to drive some pretty good machinery  ;D

I was riding along on my '07 Bonneville this past summer and this car pulled up in the lane next to me and this guy was waving at me from his car and giving me a thumbs up.
In a couple blocks I pulled into the gas station and dismounted to fill 'er up. In a minute or so the same guy walked up and said he saw my Bonneville and wondered what year it was, thought it was old, 'no kidding, they're making 'em again?' And all sorts of glowing comments and remembering the one he had back in the sixties and riding down the Keys on it and so on.
He was so excited, it was really cool.
We talked for a few minutes more and he started getting a twinkle in his eye when asking where I'd got it. ;)
I bet that was an interesting car ride home with his wife!

That's cool AND I'll bet it WAS an interesting ride home! :D

That's one of the things I enjoy about getting the GTX out. Makes ME feel good AND Folks seem to enjoy seeing the old ones as well. Like YOU, I get stories about them or a buddy having an old GTX, road runner or even other performance cars. AND that's cool as well. 8) I enjoy seeing the old Cars and bikes OUT THERE too! ;)

Yep, it's cool to see old stuff that's been well taken care of, and there's always great stories to go along with them.

I get some pretty cool reactions when I relate the meaning of this old GTX, to the road runners that Brenda and I had, along with the fact that she's gone now (while I show them the plate on the front of the car). I've had a couple of women actually turn redfaced and tear up when I mention that the car is a tribute to my wife. Nearly everyone who makes a comment about the old GTX, had one "Back In The Day". ;)
