I have a 75 CB400F that I am trying to clean up starting with the carbs. While trying to unscrew the phillips head screws that are in the slide/link arm area that allow access to the needle, I stripped one phillips head.
Has anyone ever done this and if so, what is the best way to go about drilling the stripped screw head out so I can change the needle?

get a dremel and a cut off wheel, cut a nice slice in the top of the screw... keep in mind if you cut too deep the head might split, to shallow and it might strip again! grab a flathead and go nuts.... oh and replace them all with s/s allen head socket screws...

is the space and head of the screw big enough to grab with a small vice grip pliers? grab tight and twist it loose, worked for the stripped srews and bolts on my bike.

I think that Ivanitsky45 might be working with one of the two very small Phillips screws down inside the tubular carb slide.

If this is the case, you do indeed have a delicate surgery ahead.  An impact driver is a wonderful tool but you need to find some rare mini attachments for that small screw, and support the screw from below so the impact blow doesn't wreck the slide. 

You could drill the Phillips head off, and your drill may eat into the plate below the screw, but delicate execution will minimize this. 

I just did two racks of CB350F carbs and all the small Phillips screws were very tight, and their fastening probably goes right back to day one in Japan.  Good luck.  Don
