yeah, completely coating the solder connections with silicone was a silly way of keeping them from touching.
I used electrical tape on mine just because I didn't have any heat shrink (preferred method) and wasn't about to make an order specifically for heat shink tubing.

In my career dealing with thousands of electrical connections controlling multi-million dollar equipment, there's globs of silicon #$%* everywhere.And heat shrink tubing and a lighter are so prohibitively expensive.
