gas tank mounting question...
« on: March 18, 2010, 12:22:51 PM »
okay, had to buy a tank for the 550, too many holes in the original and its too nice outside for her to sit in the garage. im going to mount a nut to the frame with a hole on the back side and just bolt it down. i have a torch and tanks here and i can braze it or run the bike down to my dads and use the MIG, any ideas. would a stick weld job hold up alright or do i need to really weld it on...
what you guys think?

Ummmm......

I guess I have no idea why your welding on it...... ??? ??? ??? ???

Not a stock tank? Don't have the rubber bits to mount it?

What gives?

I'm not gonna stone you..... :D

Does help explain why you need to weld tho.......

So your basic Question is how to weld a lug on?

Brazing or MIG has a bit more finesse then stick welding.

Either would work for holding a gas tank mounting lug if done properly.

Good luck.

cool. ill probably braze it. that was the dilema whether to braze at home or load up bike and drive down to use the MIG....
THANKS
