never lived there. been there a few times. Like most large cities there are bad parts and good parts. bill 440 may know more about it. IMO not a great place though.

Hey there, It depends on what part of North Little Rock you are talking about. I lived there til Summer of 1962. My Granddad had a motorcycle shop on the corner of Washington Ave and Clark streets, til 1968 (started it in 1932) I've lived over in that are and then we moved to Levy (still part of North Little Rock) and then we moved over to Little Rock in the summer of '62 and I went to High School over there. My In-Laws live in Little Rock, Alexander and Benton. Still go down there on occasion. Another one that is IN the area is B.O.X.N.I.F.E. and he is down there. There was another member that I am embarrassed to say I can not remember his name exactly, but he lived in Maumelle (spelling?) just outside of North Little Rock. I cheated, I looked him up in the member listing and it is "GNXfan". Lots of folks didn't particularly EVER like North Little Rock and some people in Little Rock called North Little Rock "Dog Town". Never really understood why. Only thing IS, for quite a few years, North Little Rock just didn't seem to prosper much. Didn't seem to have any promise. Little Rock seemed to get the progress and all. I never had anything against Little Rock, but didn't appreciate the animosity towards North Little Rock. BTW, lots don't know it but North Little Rock used to be called Argenta years ago. Don't know why the name change, just makes outsiders think it's actually part of Little Rock and it's not. Other areas of it, are Park Hill & Lakewood. I don't know where the city limits signs are now, probably took in Indian Hills years ago.

Yeah, I was born and raised in North Little Rock, Jacksonville, back to North Little Rock and Little Rock, before finally moving up to the Fort Smith Area to take a job at Fort Chaffee back in Dec of '72.

                          Hope that helps, Bill ;)

I have a friend who lives just north of the river near Main & 16th.  Seems like a funky little neighborhood.  Mostly older houses from the 30's & 40's.  Seemed like a lot of younger folks were moving into the area and fixing up the old places.

Yes, there are lots of old houses there. The place definitely needs NEW life alright. ;)

I did, with street view as well.  But i can't get a real feel for it. Just going to have to go there!  Wish I could ride, but my business partner would not have the patience for it!

I will take good BBQ tips for the area!

In the Levy part of North Little Rock, there used to be a place called Joe-Joe's (not sure if it was spelled like that or like Jo-Jo's). And there was a place over in Little Rock (can't think of the name of it right off), but surely there are others by now. I'll get the Little Rock (covers North Little Rock also) phone book out this weekend and see what there is.

Oops, I forgot, sorry. You know how Mondays go! ::)

Anyway, I can give you the names, addresses and phone numbers of the places in North Little Rock AND also Little Rock, if you like. Then google it up and see how to get there.

       1. Jo-Jo's BBQ
           3411 Parker
           1-501-812-5656

       2. Mick's Bar-B-Que
           3609 MacArthur
           1-501-791-2773

       3. Sims Barbeque
           4528 Camp Robinson Rd
           1-501-771-9994

      4. Walker's Bar-B-Que Company
          5107 Warden Road
          1-501-758-3145

       5. White Pig Inn Barbeque
           5231 E. Broadway
           1-501-945-5551

Now, I believe these are ALL in North Little Rock and my Mom and Dad used to go to a place in Little Rock, called "The Shack", but I can't find it listed. Now, I notice that this Little Rock phone book is a 2005 model.  ::) We should have a new version around here somewhere. But I have NO idea where it is. Might ought to check out the places before you get there. I thought I was going to be of more help than that. Sorry.

There are many more listed, with even more listed in the Restaurant section, but to pick them out would be a real job and most of them are in Little Rock. Don't know if they are still in business but my folks used to go to The Shack on 9th st in Little Rock and Brenda's folks used to go to HB's BBQ in Little Rock also.

No Problem, I just hope I have helped. I haven't eaten BBQ in Little Rock Area in years. Now, if it was Catfish, I'd send you to "Catfish City on University Ave, in Little Rock. I know THAT place quite well. ;)

BTW, IF Jo-Jo's IS still in business, their BBQ sauce comes in several stages of Warm  to HOT! And, trust me, when they say HOYT, they mean HOT! :o ;D
